Ehhh.
In May 1993, days after his 39th birthday, Seinfeld met 17-year-old Shoshanna Lonstein in Central Park. After a brief conversation, he got her phone number. Lonstein was still a senior in high school and would turn 18 at the end of that month. Seinfeld and Lonstein dated for approximately four years, until 1997. She transferred from George Washington University to UCLA, in part to be with him, and cited missing New York City and constant press coverage as reasons for the relationship ending.
47 of the 48 months they were together she was not 17.

It's not a James Franco (or Leo) situation.

I mean he was still a 39 year old dating a high school student. It may not be illegal but it’s still creepy as hell.

Not really wanting to dissect this like the Ace Ventura nonsense, but she graduated that May, right? In that month they met? The month she turned 18?

Hey if you wanna go to bat for a 40 year old dating an 18 year old high school student you should go for it. :slug:

Honestly while that’s all super gross, what actively annoys me more about Seinfeld is his limited and smug view on comedy. Comedians in cars really made me dislike him. And this whole complaining about cancel or PC culture while being completely misinformed about current sitcoms or comedy is equally annoying.

Just seems like a weird label to attach to a 70 year old that's been married for 25 years.

And no, I don't have a problem with consenting adults finding happiness.

Yeah I saw another response to his complaint about TV "being hurt by the extreme left and P.C. crap, and people worrying so much about offending other people." It was something like "Imagine how embarrassing this take would be if the other creator of Seinfeld had made one of the funniest shows of all-time that had no worry about offending people and ended this literal month."

I agree with this. I was going to mention he is one of the few comedians I wouldn't want to have dinner with. He seems insufferable.

Eh, depends where the dinner was. If he's paying with his god-money, I'll deal with a smug fart-smeller for 2 hours.

Then again, not a given he'd pay. I still remember several years back doing a comedy festival in Columbus, afterwards we see Jay Leno roll into the local pizza joint we're at, and he doesn't leave a tip.

He apparently didnt watch much of Curb if he thinks he couldn’t do those pretty damn tame stories that were on Seinfeld today.

Leno is another one that I just never liked. He was never funny to me, and he always came off like he’d be insufferable to be around.

Same.

Tim Allen should probably also be in that group but I give him a pass for some reason. Maybe because I have only ever seen one stand up special of his and it was just the prequel to Home Improvement.

In his larger remarks on the state of affairs he talked about coming home to watch All In The Family and M*A*S*H and several other shows that came and went 40+ years ago. lol

His co-creator just had a show about his morally reprehensible alter ego until like just the other day, and he old-aged out of it.

And this basic motherf**ker just did a movie about POP-TARTS. He's not in any danger of his comedy stylings getting cancelled over content.

Furthering my ever-growing belief that the worst part about PC/Cancel Culture is comedians complaining about PC/Cancel Culture. Especially during a special.

The only thing that he might get cancelled for today that he got away with before is dating a high school student. Aside from dodint, most people would probably find that icky.

Listening to the whole interview, it was pretty clear Seinfeild was talking about network sitcoms. But he doesn't seems to understand that networks aren't the same as they were 20, 30 years ago. Back them you had 30 million people watching shows not because they were necessarily better, but because they were all that was available. On cable/streaming, a show like Curb got, what, 4 or 5 million? It's not going to become the cultural juggernaut because viewership is so fragmented.

I do think he has a good point that writing by committee ends up mostly producing sh*t. Not just in sitcoms, but in dramas, movies, etc.

That’s also not a new phenomenon. There is a long proud history of really shitty and inoffensive network sitcoms.

I agree. I just took the root of his comment to be stemming from the thought process of, "Why aren't there any hugely successful sitcoms any more?" And I think he mostly missed the point.

Father of current 14 year old, can think I'd probably have the overwhelming urge to castrate a 39 year old who started dating her in 4 years.

When I hear stuff like that I always think of "French Kiss? Daddy says I'm the best at it" from Vacation.

Not sure if it was mentioned but I just read that Timothy Olyphant is starring in an Alien show on FX. They're shooting in Thailand.

Is anyone watching We Were The Lucky Ones?
It's getting proper good accolades, but it just feels so amateurish. Like the people making it don't understand their medium. Stories are intercut aimlessly. Ad breaks are abrupt, coming on unnatural story beats. The characters are a collection of generally unlikable dopes who take in all the information available to them and make the worst decision possible. Drama is undercut by rich plot armor. Consecutive scenes work against each other. They are weaving multiple budding romance narratives into the story which is at best incongruous. The music (at least the theme) is a poor knock off of Schindler's List. It's all just a bit.............. awkward.
This wrapped up.............
..........and it did not get better. There was one episode where three different characters from storylines separated by thousands of miles of geography repeated the same piece of exposition in consecutive scenes.

This was an immensely frustrating piece of stuff. A great story poorly told.

I'm sure this will go over well.
A new version of The Office has been picked up at Peacock, though will not be a direct spinoff or reboot of the original series. Instead, it's described as being "set in the same universe" and follows "the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch" who are "in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters." Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore are attached to star.
