I am looking for something that can lock the desktop icons in place because I somehow swiped my finger across, half-asleep, and removed one. Hmm.

Cool, gonna check these out at lunch.OK, install these. I am not afraid of trying apps, btw. I'll uninstall, then run Clean Master or Power Clean to remove any residual files or ads for a clean slate.I use to have an app that showed me whose devices were on a wifi network. Sadly, I can't recall the name of it.
And check out graphic visuals in these apps of what channels people in your neighborhood are using. Everyone here uses either 1 or 11 and a few who use 6. I put mine on channel 9 and have zero interference from others.

The entire Plex software suite is really, really great. I don't stream my music collection, but only TV and movies. Very easy to setup and use.
I upgraded to Plex Plus, if only for the PS4 app access. Any other reason I should keep subscribing to Plex Plus?

I have a desktop connected to my home theater, but it's still running XP. It appears Plex will not work with XP. This makes me sad.The entire Plex software suite is really, really great. I don't stream my music collection, but only TV and movies. Very easy to setup and use.

Plex is three things (essentially)
-Plex Media Server (installed on the computer you store your media)
-Plex Home Theater (installed on the computer in your home theater)
-Plex client apps (for iOS, Android, game consoles, etc)
You can install PMS and PHT on the same computer. If you just want to watch or listen to things on your mobile devices you don't even need PHT - its optimized for controlling with a remote from the couch on an HTPC.
For XP you just need to dig around until you find the oldest versions that still support it. You will miss out on the newer features of course, but you CAN do it.
PlexPass is their lousy way of trying to annuitize their income stream. Other than access to the game console apps you get early access to beta builds of other stuff and the ability to locally save media onto your phone from your server.
If you have a Samsung smart tv I think the Plex app for 2012 and 2013 models is excellent. It can even handle bluray sourced 3D, which almost nothing can. That app was just designed by some guy - not the Plex team.

I finally got my printing going.
I installed that Canon Service thing. Seemed all good, activated, so I went to print something. Ughhhh. No **** buttons to print on any of the apps, whether a picture, or a text file, or a webpage. Slapped my forehead. Back to square one. I thought I'd have to go through a cloud, but I wanted to print directly from the phone, so then I noticed a cool app. OK, so I had to pay $9.95, but now I can print anything on my phone, connecting straight from the app to the printer by WiFi. (Canon Service thing not required so I got rid of it)

Any recommendation on a GPS app (for driving or walking purposes)? I normally use Garmin, but I recently found myself in need of such a thing on my phone.

Google Maps has a walking mode.

I actually used Google Maps a few times recently to find specific stores in the area. Might have to play with it a bit more. But I just saw a location. I'm looking for something like a driving GPS that would give me an arrow and directions. I don't know if GM does that.Google Maps has a walking mode.

Yeah, it does...but with everything Google, that part of it is in beta. We used it in San Francisco quite a lot - it mixes walking with mass transit, which was great. There might be a more robust app for hiking/walking though...

Digi --- I finally found the GPS mode in google maps. Pressed some button and it popped out. Didn't know it existed - lol. Exactly what I needed. Works as well as a Garmin. Thanks a lot.

friend of mine from work directed me to a walkie-talkie app, appropriately titled two-way. We were patching ports on Thursday and since there were three of us on different floors, it worked perfect. While a group text would have worked, it means having to pull your phone each time a text was sent. Although it says it "works with minimal battery usage", I don't think that part is true.

The totalitarianism demonstrated by the FBI and other three letter agencies as of late has compelled me to use full disk encryption on my Android. I don't have a particular reason to do this, it's more a principled thing. That said you have to encrypt it with a password, which makes perfect sense. You enter the password when you turn the phone on and it decrypts the phone.
My issue is that it also forces you to use a password on the lock screen. This makes me very sad as it was not my intent to get rid of my swipe. The decryption password and the lock screen password serve two completely different functions and it annoys me that I'm forced to use the lock screen password. Any way around this? Can anyone recommend a third party encryption tool with a little more flexibility?

Has anyone ever used one of the apps that allows you to add a second line to your phone? (Like Sideline)
