Steelers v. Ravens - Week 4 GDT

Defense played very good
Knocking out the Ravens one competent receiver made their secondary look functional. Got run over by Forsett a lot though. Shazier being hurt is a problem.

Yeah, I think this is a definite bright spot. The front 7 is starting to look like a real Steelers defense (i.e., one that puts some fear into the opposing QB, makes tackles for losses, etc.), minus a couple big holes for Forsett. The secondary is managing to hold it together and come up with the occasional big play. They certainly did enough to win last night.

This. There were several drives where the Ravens were getting 10 yards at will. The defense does look better than I would've given them credit for. It seems like I go in expecting a complete **** show and am pleasantly surprised each game.

Cam Thomas was especially dreadful last night. After they take a kicker in the first round of the 2016 draft they might want to take a nose tackle in the 2nd round instead of another WR.

One of those games that with Ben out, you need to win. Didn't happen, and that's devastating. Sign a new kicker please.

Didn't he get hurt at the end of the 3rd quarter? Not like Flacco and Smith were exactly lighting it up before then.

He was limping around after his 2nd catch in the first quarter.

This team could realistically be 4-0 with a kicker
Easily. That's why I'm frustrated.

Reed sees a reason why kicking in Pittsburgh may be a greater challenge for Scobee than kicking in Jacksonville, one that he warned Scobee about when he called him for tips on how to kick at Heinz Field after being traded from the Jaguars.
*shhhhhhhh* Jeff, you said you wanted the job, that's not helping.

I'm glad it was close, since everyone kind of thought that it was going to be a Ravens day from the start. But it really has that feel like they lost that game on their own, giving the Ravens every chance.

This was equally painful to the last game I think I saw in Pittsburgh.

That was also versus the wonderful birds from Charm City.

Kris Brown missed several very makeable field goals that day. I was not pleased.

I mean, there was an initial bitterness, because I just kind of wondered, why? I know I’ve made some mistakes, but why am I getting fired? But then you turn back around…and I can’t be bitter towards an organization that helped me start my life and gave me so many things in life.
I know, I mean, why would the Steelers fire him??

I wish he had an account here; kind of a role model for Godric, perhaps.

He didn't break it. He was testing it's durability. Then he placed it in the woods, because it is made of wood and he thought it should be with it's family.

Getting mad at scobee is getting mad at a puppy for pissing on the rug. His handler is the problem.
it's more like getting mad at a full grown dog who has been housetrained for 5-6 years for doing this thing in every room of the house. Scobee is a veteran, a veteran who was known for his accuracy and having a decent leg until this past year.

2010: 22/28 (76.9%), longest FG: 59 yards
2011: 23/25 (92%), longest FG: 55 yards
2012: 25/28 (89.3%), longest FG: 50 yards
2013: 23/25 (92%), longest FG: 55 yards
2014: 20/26 (76.9%), longest FG: 53 yards
2015: 6/10 (60%), longest FG: 45 yards

Now I don't have a full list of kicks that he made/missed in front of me, but it looks like he did have some decent range last year, making 3 kicks of 49 or longer, include 2 53 yard kicks in December with one of those being in Baltimore.

As much as I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, that's 4 missed FGs in two games (NE, BAL) along with a missed PAT. That's not good. 60% as a kicker gets you a call to the coach's office telling you to clean out your locker. If you think he looks bad now, wait a few weeks (if that's even an option.) We're not even to the point of the season where the field is sloppy.

he's a 3rd string kicker that was easily poached from one of the league's most hopeless franchises.

<dennisgreen>he is who we thought he is</dennisgreen>

he stinks, but he's supposed to stink. the trick is to not put yourself in a position to rely on him. so when you have 3rd and 2 or so in "field goal range", you approach it like you have 2 shots to get those yards. and you hand the god damn ball off to the league's finest RB.

it's funny...scobee making that first field goal was a curse. it totally confused our feeble minded coach about how to proceed.

What's Roy Gerela up to? He's only about 67.

Gary Anderson?
