I was unaware that ardbeg came out with a 5 year old scotch. Picked some up. It’d be the perfect summer scotch. It’s got that peaty smoke to it, but it’s super citrusy and light. I think I might cap it and save it for spring and go get either the 10 or uigeadale for the winter, but it’s good stuff.

Picked some of this up yesterday. Nice and spicy, definitely would buy again. Perfect on a rainy Sunday.

Enjoying a cocktail I made of Kahlua, Baileys, Butterscotch Schnapps and Crater Lake Hazlenut Espresso Vodka plus a dash of cream. It’s like a hazlenut butterfinger.

Series 3 of The Wine Show is streaming on Amazon Prime in the UK; here's to hoping it comes to the US soon, as the first two runs of the show (on Hulu) were simply outstanding. Added bonus: Their HQ for this series is the Douro Valley in Portugal, which is in contention for our next overseas trip when things can be things again.

@Pavel Bure Phenomenal. So many different layers to it, but they all come together beautifully. Highly recommend.

c2i's whiskey rankings:

1. Island scotches
2. Mainland scotches
3. Rye
4. Bourbon
5. Irish

I should note that I've never had a Japanese whiskey, thus they are not ranked.

Got Evan Williams Single Barrel the other day. That is a very good, smooth bourbon.

Is there a proper way to make eggnog and bourbon or should I just continue pouring it into the nog and stirring with my finger?

The proper way is to omit the nog.

Damn, I like their birch beer. I thought I disliked egg nog and for some reason I was drawn to it at the store so grabbed a jug and put bourbon in it and I liked it quite a bit

Get Galliker's Egg Nog and add Laphroig and be happy

I finally bought some Deanston 14 as it went on clearance down $19. Eyed it up for a few years. Top 5 scotch I've ever had. Likely best under $100.

Nice! My family took a break from tequila and did whiskey for Thx-giving. Shooting wise this tastes like almost nothing. In a glass with a couple ice cubes it’s great.

Whiskey wise we had,

Writers Tears (Barrel aged)
Method and Madness
Crown Reserve
Wild Turkey Long Branch

The Wild Turkey was the favorite as far as taste among the group. Crown had too sweet of a finish for me. Method and Madness had an almost floral finish and the Wild Turkey had a lot of taste with just enough burn.

Alright 5af...need some suggestions. I visited ye ol' liquor store with 'unlimited' Xmas budget and on a bit of a bourbon kick. Came home with 1792 small batch, Bulleit rye, and Angel's Envy. While I'm normally a single malt fan, gotta say that these are all excellently yummy Angel's Envy is smooth af.

So, for the suggestions. What bourbons am I missing out on...and what cocktails should I give a go? A friend suggested a boulevardier (bourbon negroni). Any thoughts?

My go to bourbon is Four Roses, either Small Batch or one of their Single Barrel offerings. If you’re looking for a more peppery rye, Rittenhouse Rye 100 Bottled-in-Bond is fantastic and comparatively inexpensive. Woodford is on most top bourbon lists. I’m partial to their Double Oaked.

Angels envy uses my company’s stuff, so I’m obviously going to love them, but one of my favorites is four roses small batch and knob creek is surprisingly good.

Boulivardier is one of my go tos. If you like that bitter/aromatic flavor and are looking for something way out there, replace the Campari with fernet. Or if you don’t like the butter stuff, just go the Manhattan

Haven’t had angels envy yet, but really like the other two. Ones I’ve had recently:
- Evan Williams single barrel is really good, especially for the cost.
- four roses small and single are both very good. Single is a little hotter, but deeper
- michters has a good reputation, he I don’t like it that much. Has a great nose, but flavor doesn’t stack up
- Legent. If you like sherry, get this. It’s a solid bourbon, but there’s a big sherry flavor.
- Early times bottled in bond is another one that’s not that expensive, but really solid.
- Larceny barrel proof. Another really hot one, but so much flavor.
- haven’t had it since my wedding, but Willett is probably my favorite. Hard to find.

As far as drinks, the only thing I really have with bourbon aside from bourbon and coke is an old fashioned. Old fashioners are incredible. Little simple syrup, orange bitters, and orange and lemon zest.
