This isn't an outlandish take. I've been impressed with him since his Indiana days (he still didn't get to the pylon in time) and he just needed some good receivers at Washington to really bring out his talent. If he goes to a team with a decent line and established receivers, he could end up being the CJ Stroud of this draft.

Penix is going to be an INT factory against NFL defenses.

pro scouts are bad enough at this that I hope no amateur scouts are surprised that any QB, even some random no name one like a Brock Purdy, could end up being the best QB of the draft

Brock Purdy wasnt a no-name though. I dont remember why he fell, but i remember reading about him being a QB to watch the year leading up to the draft.

I remember size and a perceived lack of talent compared to the others that year were the knocks against him. That was a goofy year for QBs though in the draft. A single clearly overrated QB goes in the first round... People just weren't drafting QBs, so everyone fell.

Super Bowl Winning QBs by round:
Rd 1 - 30 (including Steve Young, USFL) (ie 30 Super Bowls were won by a QB drafted in the 1st round)
Rd 2 - 3
Rd 3 - 7
Rd 4 - 1
Rd 5 - 0
Rd 6 - 8 (7 by Brady, Mark Rypien)
Rd 7 - 0
- Modern Draft Ends -
Rd 8 - 0
Rd 9 - 2 (Unitas & Brad Johnson)
Rd 10 - 2 (Staubach)
Rd 11-16 - 0
Rd 17 - 2 (Starr)
Undrafted - 1 (Warner)

As cool as the Purdy story is, it's an outlier. And when it comes to MVP's it's similar: Warner was undrafted 30 years ago, Brady nearly 25, and everybody else was significantly longer ago. If you're not picked in the 4th round or better chances are you're not making much of an impact in the league.

Why are you not calling out Russ as a 3rd round sb qb?

And I was trying to think of who those 2nd round ones are. And gave up.

Drew Brees was a second round pick

Drew Brees was a 2nd rounder. Also this list sucks. We just had Super Bowl 58 and the numbers add up to 56 and I'm sure as hell certain there have been more than 2 multi-win QBs.

Edit: 35 Super Bowl winning QBs.

Edit x 2: Favre and Stabler were 2nd round picks.

Sorry, add 2 to the first round for the last two by Mahomes.

I didn't call out every QB, just those from round 6 on back.

So the non-insane way to do this would be:

Rd 1 - 20*
Rd 2 - 3
Rd 3 - 4
Rd 4 - 1
Rd 5 - 0
Rd 6 - 2
Rd 7 - 0
- Modern Draft Ends -
Rd 8 - 0
Rd 9 - 2*
Rd 10 - 1
Rd 11-16 - 0
Rd 17 - 1
UDFA - 1

35ish Super Bowl winning QBs. Asterisk on this and on Rounds 1 and 9 because 9th rounder Johnny Unitas was forced out of Super Bowl V in the 2nd quarter due to injury and Baltimore was led to victory by 1st rounder Earl Morrall. I've seen both get counted, but to me Morrall was the winning QB and Round 9 should actually be at 1. Regardless, 59% of Super Bowl winning QBs were 1st round picks. I don't think it should be a surprise to anyone that the majority of Super Bowl winning QBs are first round picks, but that doesn't change the fact that most first round QBs are also varying degrees of "busts". Some are real busts. Some are perceived busts. Since 1950 there has been 1,036 QBs drafted into the NFL; 172 were first round picks and only 12% of them have managed to win a Super Bowl.

Word from Reddit (which is always correct) is that Rice was involved in a race on the highway which caused an accident and left somebody hospitalized. So racing and a hit and run.

If true, nice to see that the Jordan Davis and Henry Ruggs episodes have taught these players an important lesson

1. Diggs not washed
2. Contract is terrible, but Texans have tons of space
3. Bills aren't even in the expensive Allen years and having major cap issues.

I think they are trying to clear out and do a roster refresh. They lost a lot of core guys that are in the back end of their careers, but still valuable.
