Saw some talk about that earlier today. Terrible move imo. So far Meyer is showing that he's approaching his Jags' gig like a college coach, and not as a leader of grown-ass men making millions of dollars a year.

Signing a 4th string tight end will surely be the end of the Meyer era

I mean I think Tebow could be a useful TE in the league. It's a pretty low risk signing.

It's not so much about Tebow himself, it's about the potential of the Mythic Tebow who's from that part of Florida (I think he grew up in suburban Jax) and remains something of a heroic figure with frankly loopy fans taking over. Ordinarily a TE4 who's not even assured of making the 53 wouldn't move any needles. But not every TE4 is perceived to be actually Jesus by some people.

Imagine the fun when Trevor Lawrence has his first 3-game losing streak.

It's amazing the way Tebow drives some people to irrrational takes.

You are of course right, but probably not for the reason you think you are right.

Tebow is like the least threatening person on planet earth, but every reaction to him is like he's made of uranium.

Following the schedule discussion in the Steelers' offseason thread.........

The Chargers have home games this year against PIT, DAL, NYG, defending champs KC, and of course the annual game against division rival LV. More than half of their home game are going to be against teams with more fans in the stands.

it musk suck to play for an NFL team in a market where, at best, they are the 5th most popular team (Rams, Raiders, Stillers, Cowboys).

And that's just football. In terms of competing for discretionary spending, they are also behind the Doyers, Lakers, Clippers, Galaxy, Kings, and LAFC. They've got Justin Herbert, which in a couple more years will be useful (I know I'm a fan), but for the foreseeable future, most fans that will be at games where SoFi is even remotely at capacity for Chargers home games it will be because people are coming to see the other team.

They lost their fans in SD when they moved back to LA?

Pretty much. On a normal Sunday, that's a 5+ hour round trip commute; no one's coming up here from SD for the Chargers, in the same sense that people generally weren't going from LA to SD for Chargers games. Now that things are returning to normal, it's nice knowing that we have a kick-ass new stadium that's going have NFL football all 18 weeks of the regular season, and that one of the teams has a stud new QB who's going to be awesome for 15 years. But yeah, the Chargers have no real fanbase here. Maybe they will in a few years, as Herbert establishes himself.

When I went to the PIT-LAC game in 2019, Steelers fans outnumbered Chargers fans probably 1,000:1. It was hysterical and pathetic.

Oh look. Jax TE4 is gonna QB2.

Urban Meyer envisions utilizing Tim Tebow in Taysom Hill-like role this season, per report
There are people in camp right now who strongly believe the reason why Urban Meyer brought Tim Tebow in is not to play tight end, but actually to use him in that utility role, that Taysom Hill role that we see Sean Payton use in New Orleans. In terms of comparing the two, we always talk about on this show how much Sean Payton loves Taysom Hill. It's been very obvious over the years. That same kind of love is what Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer have between each other. It could be a very similar situation, but in terms of football, this is something we could be seeing.
The last time the guy took a snap in the League, Obama was still in his first term. I'm sure this will go well.

NFL going 100% virtual tix. I understand the ease of it, but I love having the physical ticket for souvenier, and also once you have that virtual ticket, you are going to have a **** load of advertisements coming your way.

Just wondering what will happen to the people w/o smartphones, and the scalper industry I guess is going to be dead.

Hasn't the NHL gone completely mobile the last couple years? I'm almost 100% positive they did this year.

The article I read said no. Maybe it will get some pushback.

This was on the Athletic.

I think they did for COVID purposes, but I don't think any other league has committed to 100%. I think it is only a matter of time though.

Let's face it: if you are ponying up for NFL tickets, you more than likely have a smartphone.

Chances are the vast majority of fans will be fine. Just wondering if you are an older person that just likes the flip phone but can afford tix, or if someone gave tix away or for charity or something and those individuals don't have one.
