I like how on the mobile view, Rodgers’ face is cut out and the main part of the image is the Adam Schefter bit

Green Bay and New York are finalizing a trade to send the four-time NFL MVP to the Jets, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Monday.

The Jets receive Rodgers, the Packers' 2023 first-round pick (No. 15 overall) and a fifth-round pick (No. 170) in exchange for their 2023 first-rounder (No. 13), 2023 second-rounder (No. 42) and sixth-rounder (No. 207) picks, as well as a conditional 2024 second-round selection that could become a first.

The trade will be submitted to the league office in "a day or two," Pelissero reported on Monday. Rodgers will sign a revised contract with Green Bay to facilitate the trade.

So a 1st and a 2nd for a ~40 year old QB...? Seems high, no? I don't think I've ever understood an NFL trade though...

Looks like it’s just dropping down two slots in the first, dropping a second for a fifth, and a sixth

I mean it’s the Jets. My dad who’s a Jets fan and I talked about this this weekend and we agreed that the last “good” Jets QB was Pennington, which is sad for several reasons

if they get one good year out of Rodgers it makes them contenders and worth it

There’s a conditional second that could turn into a first too; I think that’s what mikey is referring to

Does it make them contenders though? Do they have a defense and an o-line? (I honestly don't know) - like, were they actually a QB away and this is a "window" year? I feel like the NFL doesn't give up two high picks like that for a weak chance, unlike the NHL where picks have significantly less value...a player like Jean-Gabriel Pageau will get this kind of value at the deadline, no big deal...but this seems weird, again, not knowing if the Jets are ready to compete or not...

Their defense gave up the fourth least yards AND points last year. Also Sauce in just one season is already considered one of the best CBs in the league

also Breece Hall was **** electric until he got hurt. If he’s able to come back they’re one of the most complete teams in the league

so much depends on Rodgers though. If he’s 2009 NYJ Favre then they’re losing in the first round. If he’s still got HOF talent then I don’t think it’s unreasonable to consider them the favorites in the AFC

All right, fair enough. It's also noteworthy that he had the very worst season of his career last year...at the age of 39...not a great harbinger of success...

They have a very good roster. And it's gonna be so delicious when Rodgers is the reason they aren't good

I would not consider them the favorites in the AFC even if Rodgers was better than he was last year.

They’re not beating KC, Bengals, and maybe even the Bills.

They were last in their division in 2022. They're more than a QB away, even if that was certainly they're biggest gap. I'm sure Rodgers can still do a good football, but I don't think he's a huge difference maker for them.

I'm hoping it will be utter calamity in NY, because Rodgers is a genuine doofus.

They had one of the worst QBs in the league and like I said, even with that, they had the fourth best defense in yards allowed and points allowed

their biggest weakness was their QB. If they even had a game manager QB they could’ve made the playoffs.

also teams go from last to first all the time so it’s not unrealistic to think they could make the jump. Again, all comes down to what version of a-a-ron we get

though, one thing that would scare me if I was a Jets fan is that Rodgers had some abysmal playoff performances even in his best years. Whether it’s just unluck due to a small sample size or just lax play in the big moments but he’s had a not so great playoff reputation since the Super Bowl

It feels like Rodgers and Ben are competing for the greatest number of disappointing home playoff losses.

The problem is you get rid of Lance and then Purdy isn't ready to start the season which he may not be...you are starting Sam Darnold.

I still think Lance gets a shot assuming Purdy isn't ready week one.

I wonder if they think Purdy is the real deal too. Getting rid of Lance now might mean they end up with no QB next year if Purdy sucks after he comes back.

An interesting idea. I was listening to the Kelce brothers' podcast (New Heights) on the road yesterday and Jason suggested that the NFL could benefit from a relegation system like soccer. The bottom three (or whatever) teams get relegated to a second tier (maybe a new NFL minor league or USFL or XFL, etc.).

He suggested that this could fix the draft problem of the best incoming players going to the worst teams and also teams tanking to get the top picks. Travis chimed in that the NFL is missing out on a lot of new franchise money. True that.

It would also add the sheer fun of seeing <insert team you dislike> get relegated. That might be worth the change, if nothing else.

I don't really have a problem with the current system, but it just got me thinking.
