They haven't done a great job letting people know it's extended.
I meant the play modes were gone. The only thing available was the setting menu. I assumed the beta was over.
If you're on xbone, try a hard reboot.

A lot of that was available in Rocket Labs. I guess they worked them out in a meaningful way. The modifier that I liked was taken out with an update so I went back to ranked play.

Looks good so far. The route to the first Metroid felt exactly like the original. The game badly needs d-pad support, though. Using an analog stick just feels weird.

I finally broke my D3 addiction early after the previous patch was released... I played just long enough to hit a couple milestones (lev 70 greater rift solo and paragon 800). I don't recall seeing anything in the new patch notes that made me want to pick it back up.

Of course, I've merely replaced this with Grim Dawn so... :D

I only started playing it again 3/4's of the way through S6.

Ah. Yeah, I played it with not that many breaks from the time I got it for ps3 through getting a ps4 and then up through right after 2.4.1 hit.

I was out of things I wanted to do, and they don't seem to be doing much I am interested in at this point. The new difficulties don't do it for me. Maybe at some point I'll fire it up just to see if my top chars can handle them or not, but I don't have any desire to try to push much further at this point.

Should also note that console doesn't have seasons so nothing to do there.

Procedurally generated endless space exploration. What could go wrong?

The few reviews I've read suggest it's more of a survival game that really defies categorization.

According to the developer, there are 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 explorable planets in the game. I've not fact-checked that, but that sounds like a lot.

He said quintillion, so if that's your number, you win.

I want to try it, but not for full price; and this is the problem with an indie game being sold as an AAA title.

apparently the creator said there'd be a small to never chance to meet another player, and that the game did have a very slight MP function when it would occur.

Multiple people have tried to meet each other, some standing in the exact same spots and not being able to see a player. So either it's broke, or there's no MP at all.

I don't understand how the developers don't even know what's out there? How the hell did it get made?

The main feature of No Man's Sky is that its virtual universe, including the stars, planets, lifeforms, ecosystems, and the behaviour of the space-bound factions is created through procedural generation using deterministic algorithms and random number generators. A single seed number is used to create these features via mathematical computation thus eliminating the need to create each of these features by hand. This enables the game to have a massively open nature: Hello Games has estimated that with their 64-bit seed number, their virtual universe includes over 18 quintillion planets.

Any player is able to visit a specific planet once they know its galactic coordinates, given their spacecraft has the capability to do so, and find the same features as any other player, as these coordinates serve as the seed for the planet's topography, environment, and flora and fauna. This also enables the game to be played locally offline in addition to online, as there is no server-side storage of the universe, with all details being generated on-the-fly as the user plays the game.
It sounds more like I'd be interested in watching a BTS documentary about the making of this game rather than actually play it.

They created a computer system/algorithm that would generate the world. They didn't design the worlds; they designed the system that would, on its own, create worlds.

It's essentially Minecraft on a multi-galaxy level. You're never quite sure what the Minecraft world is going to generate (because it's procedurally generated), but you know the bounds & rules by which the worlds are made. You know a desert temple will only spawn in a desert, a jungle temple in a jungle, etc, but you won't know exactly where the forests are, or the villages, etc.

Unlike Minecraft, all of these worlds are in one single universe.

If this game wasn't hyped so much, it probably would have only retailed for $20. Everyone was talking about it so they kinda got away with it.

Well, it's the first (and I think only) indie developed game to ever be featured by a First Party at E3. It's kinda earned the hype.

Don't get me wrong; it was certainly a game to get your attention based on the concept. I'm just pointing out how they capitalized on the demand.
