Haha, yeah I joke that I love The Struts and want them to take over the world, but I also want to be able to go see them at 2,000-seat theater venues for $50.

It's a sliding scale, the older the fanbase for the act, the more expensive the tickets (based on ability to pay).

Pretty easy formula, if you're going to see some prime millenial nostalgia, you're late at least mid 30's and can afford that price.

It’s about demand more than age of fanbase. Boygenius tickets were $100+ for general admission if you were lucky enough to get them at face value. My nephew just paid over $300 to see Travis Scott at PPG. He also bought a $215 hoodie while there. And by “he bought it,” I mean, “my sister-in-law.”

My wife is a big Blink fan. I’ve never been. Their show was so much fun.

Anyone got a good playlist of Christmas music done in non-traditional or pop styles? Like, is there a metal or punk Christmas Spotify playlist out there?
Bob Dylan has a Christmas album

My Christmas present is "Take mini Franchise and go see the Stones." Been tracking prices and yeah I get that this is one of the last chances and I'll kick myself if I don't but man, $167 a seat for last row nosebleeds to see 80 year old Mick and Keith is rough.

If it truly was a sliding scale based on fan base age, those seats would be 10x that.

If it makes you feel any better, there was a story here a few weeks ago that the average ticket price for the LA shows was over $1,000. Minimum price is around $80, so those floor seats are probably........ $5,000+?

Annual listening for me. One of my favorite moments is I think during Deck the Halls... The bridge is the bass playing the melody to God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, just sounds really cool.

Speaking of Christmas songs from unlikely sources, I've had CMU Alum Leslie Odom Jr.'s two Christmas albums in my Christmas music playlist since they came out several years ago. The song "Christmas" I've listened to 12 times (according to Apple Music) but it wasn't until today that I realized that it was from Tommy by The Who. I'm not a huge Tommy fan, but I have certainly listened to that album throughout my life (and I have my Dad's original vinyl from release) Odom completely reworked it, and it has very little resemblance to The Who's version.

There are certain moods where their music hits, but those moods are few and far between.

They do have great harmonies though

I’m not big on that cover but the record is album of the year and it’s not even close. And there are a few songs that don’t fall into that “moody” category and are straight bops.

I'm a Hot 100 chart junkie and I make everyone listen to the old Casey Kasem American Top 40 shows every weekend. With the advent of streaming though, the charts are able to track what people are actually listening to, not just what singles people are buying and radio stations are playing. This has led to the phenomenon of say, a T Swift album coming out and taking up all of the top however many songs are on the album.

It's also led to an interesting phenomenon this time of year, when Little Miss Dynamite, Brenda Lee, takes over the #1 spot with Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, and Andy WIlliams, Burl Ives, Nat King Cole, The Ronettes, Bing Crosby, Elvis, and all the others you know, rise from the old folks home (or the grave) and take over the Top 40.

Brenda Lee is 79, alive and well and living in Nashville.

I learned just recently that she was 13 when she recorded Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. FFS. She sounds like an old woman singing that.
