What's on your Bucket List?

Postby AuthorTony » Sat Jun 27, 2015 5:54 pm

Does anyone have a bucket list? When I was a senior in high school my journalism teacher asked us to make a list of things we wanted to do/goals we wanted to achieve. I don't have it any more but from what I can recall, I've accomplished pretty much everything I listed (not that I had anything overly lofty). I haven't given it much thought since then but lately I feel like I'm just drifting along through life and going through the motions. I have absolutely no desire to get married or have kids so I keep thinking about other things to do/experience.

I decided it was time to start a new list and the primary goal, although pretty far off, should be a fun challenge. I want to drive to all of the continental US states and Canadian provinces on one huge road trip. I figure it would take at least 2 to 3 months to really do it right so I wouldn't even attempt it as long as my parents (who aren't in great health) are around, but it's still fun to think about. I already started compiling a list of places I want to see/visit. :D

Anyway, that's my bucket list for now. What's on yours?

See an aurora borealis in person (not a small one, but one that dominates the sky like in Alaska or elsewhere).

Visit Santorini & the other Greek Isles.

Become fluent in a couple languages (mainly for research purposes).

I have a "If I win a Billion dollars" bucket list and a "still not likely going to happen" bucket list.

The later Top 5:

1) Spend 6 months in Europe

2) Do the 50 States Road Trip

3) Travel through the "Stans" of Central Asia

4) Live in Big Sky country (Wyoming or Montana)

5) Learn to fly a plane

Geez, PBP, you're not giving Kansas much of a chance. Not that I blame you. Haha.

As for what I'd like to do, it's to visit the high points of all 50 states. I've been to 28 (I think -- haven't counted in a while), but none in many years, since I took on other commitments. I don't expect to visit many more because of that and also because in those remaining 22 are about the top 15 most difficult.

Haha. I understand completely.

To be fair, there are better things to see than what you can see from I-70.

... Then again, there are worse.

My dad's family is originally from eastern Colorado and we would pheasant hunt outside Goodland, Kansas. I like Kansas a lot. :)

When I'm old, I picture myself trying lots and lots of drugs.

Before that? I dunno...it's all probably travel related. I would like a time machine to go walk the Appalachian Trail, but that's not reasonable going forward. Though there is probably a "what if something horribly tragic happens to your loved ones" list that would be more expansive...but I've just spent all the time I need thinking about that.

Hiking the Appalachian Trail is something I've always thought would be an incredible feat. But I realize I'm never going to be in good enough shape to actually do it.

*I used to want to do a drive cross-country to see a bunch of different arenas and arenas, but now I think I'd settle for the cross-country drive.
*Skate a shift with an NHL player, current or former. I've skated with a few junior players, some players that played low minors and a few ECHL players (then-current, and most recently now former). Since I'm creeping into my 40s and my name doesn't appear on Eliteprospects, HockeyDB, or Hockey Reference, I'm 99.99999% sure I will have to pay for this and head to a fantasy camp, which I'm more than fine with. I wouldn't even want a whole game. I'd be suffice with 30-45 seconds.
*I'm still on the fence whether a marathon is on my bucket list. I did my half when I was in a lot worse shape, but I was also 3 years younger . If you think about it, it's the equivalent of telling somebody after they ran 13 miles "that's nice, but go out and do it again."

Go to a Pens game.

Fly a helicopter.

The rest are probably travel related; Rome, Venice, Madrid.
