Seems like he somehow learned to command his stuff between his last spring training start and his first start in Miami.

Or maybe a confidence thing, he saw how well his stuff plays against big league hitters, so he just realized that all he has to do is throw strikes to get batters out?

Musings:

Just make Joe the everyday first baseman going forward. In a sputtering offense, he's the most productive player and it's not just been lefty mashing.

The two most painful metrics remain Hayes' GB% and Cruz's K%. They need an actual hitting coach in to address these issues. My understanding is Haines' is not that, he's something else.

The rotation was amazing last April too. So definitely going to take the early season success there with a grain of salt. But, it's still encouraging and allowing them to bring Skenes through according to plan.

The offense is just brutal, Suwinski, Davis, and Cruz all being bad is just demoralizing. Hard to really understand what the outlook is if those three are below the threshold of "Major League Caliber Hitter"

Time and patience should address a lot of this.

Suwinski is reminding me of late-era Pedro without the defensive liabilities. Seems like he put all his effort into getting the K rate down, but in the process became a completely worthless hitter.

I think giving Davis some leeway is also acceptable. The dude has made himself a serviceable backstop. And in that process, became a worthless hitter.

Also, Triolo quietly losing that 2B job. Bae and Gonzalez should be earning at bats there sooner than later.

Right, he's a fine utility infielder. Williams has been much better in limited action.
