Good news is priester dominating his aaa start.

Hopefully this is the last of falter. He sucked ass all spring
Between guys like Lauer, priester, German, wily Peralta, skenes, hopefully his time on the pirates earth is severely limited
He still somehow managed to get through 4 innings. That’s obviously a low bar, but it all helps. Bednar looked good, I think he just got too cute with Gordon. Dude is not going to square up your fastball, going off speed in the zone was a gift.

I mean, I think we all have to manage expectations, but they really grinded out at bats all series. I think this is like the Andy Haines “master plan”, hopefully they can execute a bit better this year and adjust better after the league adjusts. Cause the offense did this same thing last year in April, then I don’t think they ever readjusted. They just became irrelevant and played prospects all year.

Per my buddy, PNC is paying $1.6MM/year for that centerfield signage and a premium club name. They pay $2MM/year for PNC Park.

Are you saying that the optimism you expressed over the winter has dissipated?

I love this part. The recharging of the spirit of true believers. March/April is the best time to be a fan of Pirates fans.

Of course.

The fun part is the guy talking playoffs two games into the season. C'mon man, tell me you don't find joy in reading that level of cognitive dissonance. It's delightful.

In a post about the generational talent they were gifted in the ‘23 draft that really had nothing to do with the ‘24 season.

Talk about cognitive dissonance

You know, come to think of it...dodint is a lot like the Pirates. There has been so much consistent negativity being produced by them in recent years that, on the off chance they produce something good or positive, those around them are wont to light a beacon of hope that they are witnessing a metamorphosis of sorts...a transition from dark to light...from curmudgeon to ray of sunshine. But, as we've seen in the past, flashes of optimism are usually met with swift regression to the abyss, and so while we should never extinguish the beacon altogether, keeping it on a dimmer switch seems practical.

But being huge fans of both the Pirates and dodint, I'm always hopeful that they'll surprise us one day. :D ;)

I love to see the Pirates do well, and hope I'm 30 games under on my wins prediction. I'm not going to be fooled by this team until I have reasons not to be. I only have to go back to last year for the most recent example.

One of my best friends is an undying Pirates optimist. We text daily about this stuff and he's brimming with joy with how the season started. A lot of what I post here is just stuff I pick out of our text conversation (like the 'heart break' line).

I hope folks understand that I'm not making fun of them specifically. It's fun to poke at the idea of people rooting for a team that hasn't demonstrated tangible success since the Pens won their first cup, even if the people are good folks.

My optimist buddy is also a jersey-wearing Letang fan. He's the Yin to my Yang.
I'm not rooting for the Pirates to fail, I just enjoy the circus differently than most fans here.

The personalities on this team wow. Maybe just because I was so engaged all winter. Or maybe because I started smoking before watching games. But the attitudes of these young guys.

Jones with his chest hair. Inning 2 he ditched another button lol. And his boy Davis. Intense. Skenes coming man. Cruz and Endy.

Chapman and Bednar wow. Money Moreta before going down. 99mph reliever Ortiz.

Tellez is a big personality. Taylor brings his gold glove.

I like that the proven vets are chill. Reynolds Hayes Keller Cutch. They leave room for this young winning attitude but command respect. Seems like a great mix.

Yeah but I golf with Troy Loney and I don't want him releasing the e-brake on the cart while I'm bending over to pick up a divot.

Cutch and Davis back in. Alika Williams starts at second for some reason. I guess maybe because of triolos knee.

One day we will get to see a RHP and normal lineup
