We had fun. We were in the shade in 135. Ate good ribs. Beautiful weather.
Pitt offense needs work. Jurkovec throws a weird ball. Oline not good. Defense impressive but it's Wofford.
If the O plays like they did today against Cincy next week...they lose.
In any event H2P!

Color guy was all over the offensive line. Terrible run blocking. No push. No one staying low and driving forward. A real team would run their asses over.

Some thoughts on the opener...
1. 38 point win, game was never in doubt, no one got hurt, and they were able to get a bunch of kids on the field. That's about everything you can hope for with a game like this. I don't hate these games. It's not a big "draw" game and it's even more the case because they won't show much, but I'd still rather have a game like this to work out kinks and save the bigger games for subsequent weeks.
2. By all accounts, this was "Villanova in 2016" levels of watered-down from an offensive playbook perspective. They didn't stretch the field much with the passing game and it sounds like this was by design. I also think this played into Hammond only getting five carries. They absolutely didn't need him to win, so no need to risk injury there.
3. I thought Jurkovec looked good. He's probably never going to conjure up memories of Pickett-to-Addison, but he looked 100x more comfortable running the offense than Slovis ever really did last year. Jurkovec can run and that should add something to the offense. He missed on some throws but I thought he did a nice job getting literally almost everyone that can catch a pass involved. One other thing I did like...he hid the ball pretty well on some of the read-option stuff...a little Nate Peterman-esque. I'll be interested to see if they do more with that.
4. Defense looked solid. Yes, "level of competition" blah blah blah, but Wofford ran only two plays that started in Pitt territory and that's saying something. The only blemish was the long TD at the end, and that only happened because the ref ignored Gandy getting tossed into the fifth row by Wofford's wideout when the ball was in the air.
5. Defensive line rotation looked like this, per PL:
Starters - DE Hayes, DE Temple, DT Danielson, DT Jules
2nd team - DE Johnson, DE Brima, DT Bentley, DT Green
3rd team - DE Scott, DE Okunola, DT Donald, DT Neal (worked in very late)
It looks like each group played two series, then rotated. FitzSimmons didn't play but was dressed. Word is he was dealing with a minor ankle sprain and should be good to go this weekend.
6. All four true freshmen WRs played from scrimmage as expected. I didn't expect to see RB Montravius Lloyd get that many looks. Did a nice job breaking tackles.
The biggest concerns I have are on offense. The O-line was...OK. If that doesn't get better quickly, the next three weeks will not be easy.
The larger concern for me is finding a gamebreaker. The running game looks like it will wear teams down but I don't know if there's a breakaway threat there. The passing game, I'm still not sure. Maybe this is a by-product of the simplified approach against Wofford. They look like they can sustain drives, simply because Jurkovec saw his receivers and got the ball to them. That said, I really hope someone emerges as a consistent and reliable "big play" threat from this group.

I was just discussing this with my dad. I don't get how the former top ranked QB recruit in the country, Army All American, in his 6th year of college can't throw a god damn spiral.Jurkovec throws an ugly ball
