Do you do your own laundry?

Postby count2infinity » Tue Mar 28, 2023 8:10 am

This clip popped up on my TikTok FYP, and the person that posted it stitched in and was making fun of them...

In my mind, rightfully so. Who the f*ck has zero idea how to do laundry?

Got me wondering, men of 5AF... first, do you do your own laundry? Second, if not... do you know how to do laundry?

Yes and no? We typically just both do the laundry. So sometimes I do mine and hers (that isn't stuff I know I can damage).

My wife does the laundry but I know how to do it. That's just how our division of labor worked out, mainly because I can do man clothes laundry but don't have second-level women's clothes skills.

After ruining a few items and getting yelled at I stopped doing anything but my own.

Mrs. F has knee issues and it is hard for her to go down the stairs where the laundry is. So I do the laundry at our house. It took a while for her to get me trained on what can and cannot be dried.

Sometimes I still eff it up - I was told I could dry jeans because they were bigger than she expected, but then she put a pair on and said- "did you dry these jeans?" So apparently it was not all jeans, just a specific pair.

Sometimes my children are critical of my laundry skills and of course the response is- ok, do your own laundry then. Problem being they'd rather just wear dirty clothes.

I do my own, and usually run darks, then whites/grays, and towels.

Keep in mind, this is the same guy who thinks women getting wet when they're turned on is a sign of disease/infection. Not exactly a shining example of what a person should be.

I know how to do laundry obviously. My wife however does ours cause she says I don't separate things properly and overload the washing machine. I've also shrunk a few of her good shirts over the years oops.

We both fold the clothes equally that then sit in the hamper for a week and never get put away lol.

I do all the laundry for our household. If it cannot go in a dryer, it doesn't get purchased. All clothes into the washer, all clothes into the dryer, then all get folded and sorted by me.

laundry is one of the easiest chores. you put it in the machine and then go watch a movie. folding is the real PITA but even that's better than a lot of chores.
if I don't do my laundry, no one else will.....

I'm the laundry guy for our house. I usually crunch it out while working from home on Fridays.

I don't do my own laundry (I don't have laundry in my building at all). So I put it in a big bag and I drop it off a block away. They wash, dry, and fold it for a reasonable amount of money, and then I carry that big bag back (they do offer free delivery and pickup, but they are older folks, and I live on the fifth floor). I do this for the girl too.

I do know how to do my own laundry, but it's not worth my time to sit at an actual laundromat - I don't even know where the closest one of those is to me...

if I had to use a building laundry room or laundromat, I would absolutely pay someone to do it.

I think we can all do our laundry no problem. I definitely would/could not do my wife’s laundry. Her categorizations require a depth of clothing knowledge that I don’t care to learn

I did the dropoff because it really wasn’t more than the cost of doing it myself at a laundromat. Once I rented an apartment that had a washer and dryer, I’ve been washing my own ever since.

My place in Philly had a good washer/dryer (private) in the unit...but the move NYC squashed that. There are literally three (more?) drop-off your laundry/dry cleaning places within one block of me though. So, carrying ~40 pounds of laundry back and forth once a week or so is no big deal...

I work remotely two days a week, so I do the laundry for the house. Nobody wants to do that **** after work or over the weekend.

This is one of the few things I miss about Iraq/Afghanistan. We had contracted out our laundry service. Drop it off and three days later pick it up. I still don't know how they got the clothes folded that tightly. The bag I brought back was always about 1/4th as tall.
