Also, not sure if it was mentioned, but does anyone else think Devonta Smith has the chicken-iest legs of any non-K or P in the league?
I'm shocked his legs don't snap every time he gets hit.

That's an awful take. The Chiefs owned the Eagles D in the first half too.
For the game, the Chiefs averaged 6.18 YPP, in the first half they averaged 6.25. They had the ball four times, two would be scoring drives (Butker sucks) and two punts. It would have been five possessions but for the strip sack. For reference, the worst defense in the league, Chicago, gave up 6.1 yards per play.
The Eagles D didn't suck the second half or collapse, they "sucked" the whole game. Or maybe the Chiefs were the number 1 offense in the league

It is interesting to take a look back at the teams the Eagles D ran up their numbers on between September and January. They had like four (maybe?) tough QB matchups all year; they got Daniel Jones three times, and one playoff game against a team that was reduced to snapping balls to a running back for three quarters. The first (maybe only) elite test they faced, they stunk like week-old fish.

And yet they still only lost by 3.

it wasn’t a joke…
…but I agree with you anyway. Their defense did stink. No sacks, no turnovers, two awful blown coverages on goal line passing plays, etc
their offense was great which is why they led but their defense was very subpar

I can't get over the fact that this retired reporter is all shook up by a coordinator not talking after the game. Who does Gannon think he is?

None of this excuses the fact that it was a weak call. I agree with everything you say here, but despite all of it the Eagles were still in a position to win or tie the game without that flag being thrown. I mean, I didn't really care who won, so it's more of just an annoyance that we went from a great game with a potentially epic ending to a great game with a meh endingEagles:
- Were one relatively average game away from setting a single-season sack record, yet didn't record a single sack against a hobbled quarterback, and instead allowed him to scramble for 25 yards on the last KC possession.
- Allowed a defensive score
- Allowed the longest punt return in Superb Owl history after a 3-and-out 4th qtr possession in a 1-point game
- Defense got completely snowjobbed on the same motion concept against two different looks that resulted in walk-in red zone TDs (Seriously, watch the replays of these two plays.... there are like 2 or 3 Eagles defenders on the same side of the hash marks as the receiver; how the hell do you scheme guys open by ten yards in the red zone.)
- Didn't make a single defensive stop in the second half
But please, let's dodint and moan about a jersey tug.
To your point about the motion concept leading to 2 TDs.......I 100% believe that Reid or someone on his offensive staff identified a tendency on tape with Philly DBs switching and overcommitting inside to the outside motion guy when in that part of the field. It's almost like they knew that the motion would create a coverage scenario where that receivers coverage guy would already be inside the hashes. They also probably knew that Philly D doesn't disguise or switch out man/zone, so once Maholmes saw man, it was already over. I know we don't get to see this type of thing in Pittsburgh, but, man, beautiful.

I wonder if the field being crappy was a big reason the Eagles D couldn't generate a pass rush. The talking heads said the Bills D had issues getting to Burrows because they couldn't get traction in the snow when they played the Bengals. Perhaps something similar here.

Jacksonville ran that play against Philly and the Chiefs coaches talked about how they took that play and used it in the SBI 100% believe that Reid or someone on his offensive staff identified a tendency on tape with Philly DBs switching and overcommitting inside to the outside motion guy when in that part of the field. Started when the Bills ran it against KC a year and a half ago. Stole it and named it "Corn Dog Shuttle." Go ahead and click the link for the second wide open TD where Kelce lines up on the wrong side of the field and they almost aborted the play.

It looks like 87 sort of grabs his head in his hands at the end of the play, like "Holy geez, I almost screwed that up."

Yeah I actually think is a way bigger issue than the penalty call. Whether you agree with the penalty call or not, it's a momentary situation endemic to how the game is played. The playing surface at that stadium has been of questionable quality for actual years now, and has played a role in other major games; the condition of the field was a known and avoidable problem.Couldn't be. They grew that field for 2 years. It was perfect in every way.
