More than likely theft prevention or damaged product with people tearing open packs to search for particular cards.
People don't even open them, they just straight up steal them. I watched a guy go to a self checkout at Wal Mart wihth about 30 packs. He would hold them in stacks of 5 and only scan one.

Pack feelers...
25+ years ago I worked at a place that also sold cards and the owner (according to his assistant) would weigh the packs to find the heavier valuable cards, open the pack and then replace it with a lesser card and sell it as new. What a dirtbag.
Dirtbag, indeed...I get you're trying to make some money, but sports cards are a gamble...I collected my entire childhood, I know how it goes, I'd go to shows, I bought/sold/traded online from the age of like 11 or 12 - which turned out to be useful skills to hone as a youngster - but there are some folks out there that really just suck a [lemon] all day long in that arena...

That said, my best ever pull was from a Target...a few years after I had stopped collecting, I saw a pack of something in the "impulse buy" area before checkout...and I went, "ahh, for old time's sake...what the hell..." and ended up with this like Jordan Staal autographed rookie patch...

Spent thousands of dollars as a kid rolling the dice for something like that...came away with basically garbage pail kids pogs...then I throw $5 at it after I'm done and hit the relative jackpot...you can't win for losin' sometimes...or, maybe the inverse here...

I need to go back and look through all my baseball cards. I'm sure I probably have some hidden gems in there that were nothing when I first got them.

Wonder how much my dad's Clemente cards would go for. I've got 3-4 of them in good shape.

I have his card from his last year when I bought it but they are not worth much. His rookie card probably has some value.

Worthless. Give them to me. I’ll dispose of them for you.

The latest Youtube rabbit hole algorithm seems to be trucking videos. This was an entertaining one. I have a friend that does logistical operational management for Smith Transport in Roaring Spring, and the Swift stuff is a running gag in that industry.

This is a good one too. Starting at 5:25, overturning dump truck right near the PPG Paints Arena, and the one after that is at the 68/70 split on I-70 west in Maryland, near Hancock.

Tif is having some bad takes lately, not real sure what's happening over there.
Shall we agree to stick to giggling over new Mondo tiki mugs for a while until this period of discord passes?

I see Swift transport all the time. I will now keep a wide berth from them.

My son got his learner's permit the other day, and while he was taking his test, my wife noticed a couple of people taking the CDL written test. One woman was taking pictures and talking on the phone the entire time, apparently cheating on the written exam. My wife, ever the educator, was outraged and brought it up to the DMV staff, to which they replied: "Yes. It's not this test you need to worry about cheating on...." If they don't know their **** for the road test, it's over.

We have similar mathematical overlords.... my latest YT suggested videos are stuffed with roadway 'instant karma' compilations.

Same. And disasters. I find tsunami videos fascinating.

The Sendai earthquake hit Japan on Mrs Tif's birthday,. At the time, she was in a job that had her living in an apartment 50 miles from our house for 4 days a week, and I would come up with the doggos on Thursdays and we'd sleep at her apartment. We'd go to work on Friday, and she'd come home for the weekend. The quake hit Japan on what was late Thursday night in SoCal. When I commuted to work the next morning, I actually saw the tsunami approach and hit the coast of northern LA County. Got the point on Kanan Road where you could see the Pacific, and about 7-8 miles out to sea - well past the breakers - you could see a 3-4' wave that stretched 15-20 miles north to south approaching the coast.

Here's a video of Port Hueneme/Ventura sort of 'draining' for a minute or so as the wave approaches and then fills back up as the wave makes landfall.

Mammals can breathe through anus in emergencies, Japanese study finds
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2021/ ... nus-study/
A study by a team of Japanese scientists has shown it is possible for mammals to absorb oxygen via the anus.

Intrigued by how certain sea creatures breathe through their intestines in emergencies, researchers at Tokyo Medical and Dental University were able to prove the same was true under experimental circumstances for mice, rats and pigs, publishing their findings in the journal Med on Friday.

They say the finding might also apply to humans who are in respiratory distress when ventilators are not available or inadequate.

This is good policing

There is mandatory stop crosswalk near my house and people don't stop outside of when they are kids (and there is a crossing guard during school hours).
