The only reason I say that's probably unrealistic is that UHaul probably has a significantly smaller margin for rentals. If somebody shows up 10 minutes after that reservation should have started and needs a truck, let them rent it.

That's basically almost what almost happened to me. I showed up at 10:30 to pick up a trailer I reserved for 10:00. The guy at the local office 'renewed' my reservation for another half hour (before I got there). Otherwise, the trailer would have gone back into the regional pool and would have been rented out because demand is high right now.

Amusingly, it was a one-way rental and the place I dropped it off at didn't know I was coming. They were quite happy to get that trailer dropped in their lap that morning. :lol:

Pay for the days rental but they don't get paid for the profit on usage and possible insurance etc and also they're letting down a customer that wants that truck right now and they can see it just sitting there

When I moved, U-Hauls were tough to come by...there was like a shortage in the area overall, and very expensive as a result...I'm not sure where they all went...maybe folks are renting them out and throwing sweet rave parties in them...

Many people are renting u hauls in lieu of rental cars since prices for the latter have skyrocketed.

They should have an option that if you prepay, your rental is guaranteed. They get their money, I get my truck.
