So not only has Elon recommended everyone read The Road to Serfdom by F.A. Hayek, but he's obviously read it, because Hayek explained more than 75 years ago how National Socialism arose out of socialism and was a left-wing movement, at least economically. Among others, the National Socialist Program—which Hitler never disavowed and declared "immutable"—demanded the abolition of "unearned income" (e.g., interest, inheritances, and income gained through ownership of land), the confiscation of "war profits," the nationalization of business trusts, the seizure and redistribution of land, the communalization of department stores, the expansion of old-age welfare, the abolition of child labor, and the creation of a public education system. Those were hardly "conservative" economic programs.
On the two-dimensional political spectrum with "economic freedom" and "personal freedom" on the axes, the Nazis were authoritarian as to both. As are both communism and fascism. Fundamentally, fascism, communism, and nazism are all fraternal twins. All of them are strongly authoritarian as to both personal and economic liberty, and all of them demand the subservience of both personal and economic liberty to a higher "Us" that stands in opposition to a reviled "Them," which must be opposed and suppressed. The difference between the three is the nature of the "Us" and "Them." For Nazis, the "Us" is the Aryan race, and the "Them" is everyone not of that race. For fascists, the "Us" is the state (as Mussolini said, “Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State”), and the "Them" is everyone outside the state and those who oppose state authority. For communists, the "Us" is the proletariat, and the "Them" is the merchants, land-owners (kulaks), and other bourgeoisie people who owned the physical assets and means of production. Each of the three set up their worldview as a struggle between "Us" and "Them and demanded that all personal rights and liberties subordinate to the struggle.
I can already here the cries of "But the Nazis were racist!" Racism is hardly limited to right-wing movements. Ask the Uyghurs in China whether a left-wing government can be racist. Look up what happened to the ethnic Balkars, Crimean Tatars, Chechens, Ingush, Karachays, Kalmyks, Koreans, Cossacks, and Meskhetian Turks in the Soviet Union under Stalin.

I think the question would be more about the nazi party not disavowing hitler’s policies. Seems like whatever stance the nazis had pre-hitler are whatever.
But sure, if we want to separate hitler from the nazis, and then look at their worker policies, sure. But hitler was not “left” on economic stuff.

The 25-point National Socialist Program was personally announced by Hitler in February 1920. Those polices were not pre-Hitler.
The Nazi party was explicitly anti-capitalist and anti-big business. While their social views were hardly leftist, as Elon Musk correctly noted, their economic views were in no way right-wing or conservative.

This is just another defend Musk no matter what argument. The entire purpose of the Nazi economy was to fund a war machine. It was not left. It was not right. The whole idea was the private business were there to support a war economy. Nazis were totally fine with private companies, as long as they supported the war effort when asked, like Mercedes and VW for example. Communism overwhelmingly does not support private companies. So by this definition alone, Nazis weren’t “far left economically”
Let’s just stop trying to say that Elon musk has any idea what he is talking about. And more importantly, why is a man so “busy” wading into truly **** idiotic twitter arguments. Oh, because he’s a total loser

The whole argument is stupid.
Hitler was an economic socialist!
Is that why the entire world turned on him and see him as the devil incarnate? No, no it’s not.

He probably engages with these types of Tweets to drive engagement on Twitter or X.
It's like any media company these days. Rolling Stone's "Best [insert musical instrument here]" lists drive a lot of traffic to their site. I'm sure, in the year of our Lord 2024, they specifically put a few candidates in for trolling purposes. Like I was watching a live clip of The Police playing on their 2008 tour and the YouTube comments were complaining that Andy Summers was 250 and how St. Vincent was higher on the RS list than Eric Clapton etc.

He was authoritarian fascist. Because that doesn’t align with conservative economic ideals does not make them “left” on economics

Does it make him "right" on economics, then? Or something else?

Maybe he was just a mass murdering s**thead snowflake f**kstick and worrying about categorizing him beyond that is kind of burying the lede.
tifosi77's thread of Musk
He was a mass murdering s**thead snowflake f**kstick who espoused and implemented left-wing economic policies. Left-wing economics is authoritarian—more government control of business, more government regulation of business, and the belief that businesses should be subservient to goals other that profits, such as the environment, the welfare of workers, the "public interest," etc. Right-wing economics is free-market capitalsm. If the government is telling businesses what to do and how they can be run, that ain't right-wing economics. And Hitler's policies very much told businesses what to do. Hence, he was not right-wing economically.
I find it fascinating that people on the left object so strenuously and viscerally to the reality that Nazism had left-wing aspects. But the same people don't react the same to the truism that they also share economic views with Soviet communism (tens of millions dead) Chinese communism (tens of millions dead), the Khmer Rouge (several millions dead), North Korean Juche (several millions dead), etc. I guess killing millions of people is okay so long as it wasn't done out of racism. *shrug*

Nevermind that Musk had the video boosted as an unlabeled ad.
