The music folks are the worst. When I play alone I put on some music that can't be heard outside of the cart. Any louder than that and you're a jagoff. Oddly I've never seen a rule prohibiting it at any course I've ever played. I've also never encountered it at a country club.
That is where I am with music. Even if I'm the only one on the course, I keep it loud enough to hear it in the cart when driving and barely audible once you step away from the cart.

Those folks who roll up to the next hole with their collection of 80s metal while I'm teeing off are grade A jagoffs.

A look from the 3rd tee at the Summit Club, home of this week's CJ Cup on the PGA Tour. It's kinda too bad that the wind isn't blowing a bit like it was on Monday and Tuesday morning here. That would drive these guys nuts. Of course, they had to evacuate the media center on Monday because of the winds so maybe we don't need them quite at that speed.

Laurel Valley

boy howdy, what a treat.

clubhouse/facilities -
beautiful architecture and the cabins and cottages are really cool. inside, the gallery of the history is fun to take in, give yourself some time to see the course's place in history with major championship and ryder cup history. walking through the locker rooms, it's really remarkable to see the names of SWPA and/or PGA lore. showers have nice water pressure. commode stalls are small with uneven commodes. the food is AMAZING. ate my weight in colossal shrimp and lobster tails. turned my nose up at strip steak. pro shop - blew up the budget this month but they have some really beautiful threads in there.

course -
they had the tees up for our event so it played probably 300-400 yards shorter than normal. the course is impeccably maintained. there are a few spots on the first three holes of the back nine where you can get great views of the mountains. fall is a great time to play as the leaves are changing. the course is very tough but very fair. if you hit your spots you can be successful. greenside bunkers aplenty so dont get too aggressive. the greens were unreal. no ability to hold the ball but if you play it smart you can get where you need to go. it makes you appreciate how great that course is when you are used to playing muni's and mid tier CCs in the pgh region. you hit a putt, it rolls true and on line the entire way.

LITT's golf-
went 52 - 41 for a 93. blacked out on the first few holes (we teed off on 10 so shot 52 on the back) but i shotgunned a beer at the turn and pulled it together.

it was really an out of body experience and an amazing day. hopeful i am lucky enough to get another invite.

That's awesome. I don't think I've ever seen any pictures from there so it's just been all my imagination. Fox Chapel, Oakmont and Field Club seem to be favorites of the golf photographers I follow but LV never really pops up. Cool to see.

Casey Martin needed to have his right leg amputated.
Well, to put Norm MacDonald's spin on it:

Casey Martin's leg scored a tie in its courageous battle against Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome...

It's pretty shocking it lasted that long at all.

Rick Reilly wrote a chapter on Martin in his book Who's Your Caddy?. There are some really good descriptions of the affliction in that book. Martin was basically taking every step, for year's, knowing it might be the last for that leg. And that was back in the early 2000s.

"In many ways I exceeded what my doctors told me as a kid," Martin told Golf Digest two weeks ago. "I always felt this would be my destiny. So while it's weird to be here now, about to become seriously disfigured, it's not unexpected."
What a weird place to be in mentally.

Played today, shot a 104. Not awful, better than my scoring average. Tough to be happy about it though.
I reviewed my round just now. I had sixteen drives or full-swing approach shots that were either topped or fatted resulting in a distance that was less than half of what the given club should yield.

I am so close to being able to shoot in the low 90s regularly if I can just get that under control. I am doing this with maybe one shot per round over 165 yards, not even using a full bag. Lots of potential to achieve next year.

The only thing that could take away the sting of Rickie losing the lead is Rory winning.

What an absurd final round by Morikawa. He almost won from nowhere.

To think.... I hit a really good drive on a 275 par 4 the other day and landed it pin high. The number of holes that are on courses I play where I could be on or near the green with a 3-wood? Geesh...

Well.. I say "I could" but clearly, I can't. Rory could.

Jesus. Was that off the tee or off the deck into a par 5? I didn't see any golf this weekend

I start my indoor league tomorrow, looking forward to it. Not sure what to expect as the only indoor stuff I've ever done was just a driving range. The best part of my game is inside of 30 yards with my bump and run, I don't know that the system will register those shots correctly. I know the indoor system I'm accustomed to can struggle with wedges.
I've also never putted indoors, I thought if you got it on the green it was an automatic two-putt. But the sim I'm using makes you putt to a 6ft gimme. That's going to be weird.

I think I'll do well. Mats hide fats, should gain about 6-10 strokes per 9 on that alone.

What club do you use for your bump & runs inside 30
