MLB: Let's improve the play, strategy and the speed of the game by implementing the double hook

MLB: Let's make the above changes moot by moving the rubber back 1' so that every pitcher is out by the 3rd inning anyway after throwing 100 pitches, 50 of them in play
MLB: hasn't done either of the above
Of course not, but just doesn't make sense to implement both. Unless it's an either/or situation

Would 1 foot really make a huge difference? Feels like the only thing that would change would be guys throwing 97 instead of 99.
I think it would. That's a big difference for hitters in terms of reaction time. I was listening to someone (forget who it was, maybe Richard Justice) talk about this and the thinking was it's the least disruptive way to make an effective change.

I like both the ideas.

we all agree that science is real, and the science of baseball has determined that the most effective way to score runs is to hit the ball over everyone's head into the stands. science also says that getting an opposite field base hit with two outs in a game when you are down three runs doesn't help out your team very much. science says that you might as well try to hit a home run (strikeouts be damned) in that situation because the odds are that you aren't going to score from first base with two outs.

not based on science: won't this increase arm injuries? and a follow up question: what doesn't increase arm injuries

I heard an interesting take about the 1 foot spacing for the mound.

Catchers have discretion of about a three foot space to setup, and they all don't setup the same. So the distance the ball is traveling doesn't really change in a meaningful way. The only difference is the extra split second the batter gets to identify the pitch. If this causes pitchers to try and 'arms race' a few more mph to overcome that, they are choosing to burn themselves out of the league.

Yeah, TK show. And I don't remember the guest. The baseball coverage is kind of just wallpaper. Can only take so much Nats talk in one year.

Yes, I think it was Passan. Pretty sure that’s where I heard it from, not Justice.

And the Nats guy is whining about Tabata "leaning into" the pitch to ruin the perfect game.

After starting 5-1, the Phillies have lost five of six to fall back to .500. Their payroll is 3.5x that of the Pirates, and they have scored a whopping seven fewer runs than the Bucs, with a team that includes Harper, Realmuto, Hoskins, Gregorius, etc.

You hate to see it.

This might be the most apt description ever. The photo made me nostalgic for the early 90s.
