Michael Chen skated like a perfect short program last night when we were watching.

huh, didn't know it started. We don't have cable, and I'm not making an effort to scour the internet for the cooler sports. So it's either figure skating or nothing for me. Looks like nothing it is

Kind of funny to me that NBC has been promoting these Games on all their networks for months, and I still didn't realize they opened today.

They've actually been on since Wednesday night.

It seems that streaming has pretty much killed the Olympics for me. 90% of my Olympic viewing over the years was prime time coverage or whatever just happened to be on one of the 10 NBC channels covering stuff during the day. Without the channel surfing catalyst this is all just out of sight, out of mind.

Opposite for me. I want to see the sliding sports, curling, ski jumping, maybe some other skiing/snowboarding, and hockey. I can stream just what I want to see at my leisure.

Yeah. Winter Olympics are much better imo. Speed skating always gets exciting too. I'll stream whatever's on when I'm around but I never really know when it's actually live with the time difference, which kinda sucks

The recent trend (since Sochi?) of putting the winter Olympics in non-winter places has dulled interest for me.
As has NBC paying way too much for broadcast rights then shoving it down our throats for the six months leading up to and through the games, only to have horrible coverage once it gets here. Which is a shame because there was a time this was appointment TV.

Looks like they built the Big Air skiing slope next to a lovely nuclear power plant.

It’s kind of interesting learning about just how dry and cold some of the region is.
When the Swedish national team is telling you it’s too damn cold, that’s something.

Not sure how I feel about the ridiculous amounts of water they had to divert to make all the fake snow.

Yeah I kinda just.... was "eh" this year. But I'm easing in and starting to get hooked again.

Men's downhill event was legit, recommend streaming that one. Crazy the speed these guys are reaching. 85 mph is fast in a car, let alone going down a mountain on skis.

The curling I've caught so far has been solid. Good strategy and easy on the eyes to boot.

US and Canada women's hockey is tomorrow night.

I was genuinely scared for the guys coming down the mountain in the downhill.

I admit I never really thought a out what winter is like in Beijing. Apparently it is very cold but with little snow, although what they do get stays due to the cold so it looks snowy all the time.

These female lugers- also easy on the eyes.

Apparently it’s a closed steel plant. The wide shot, which they didn’t show on NBC’s broadcast, is hilarious.

Side note: I’ve really been enjoying these games. I feel like that’s an unpopular opinion.

I'm enjoying the games though not so much the primetime coverage. I don't understand how NBC and USA show the same event at the same time. I also feel like they're are showing too many human interest stories when they could be showing events.
