The 2nd hit Fields took is a penalty by NFL standards every single time. It's not even debatable. I mean you can debate if it should be, but by the rules... he took two full strides/steps and hit the QB after he threw the ball. That's roughing. The one where he slid..yeah that's not a penalty.

By in large though NFL refs suck, and there is no consistency at all.

Highsmith should have known better to even do it. Dumb play and da stillers got really really lucky it was not called. The 2nd hit Fields took is a penalty by NFL standards every single time. I did, in fact, say that it should not be a penalty.

Should be penalty. Also should have been a penalty the last 50 times that happened to Ben with no call so I'll play the world's tiniest violin for Justin Fields

Alright. After waking up. I'm quasi-more annoyed that the Steelers won that game and negatively impacted their draft position. This is not a successful team.

That’s where I am with the officiating from last nite. Corrente said postgame that from his angle, he saw contact on the low block. Well, how about the C, who is also looking in that area, help him out a little with that, especially with WHERE the contact allegedly occurred - INSIDE the TE box, which is legal. And then allowing the Highsmith hit right after that. Any other QB gets a finger on their helmet after a throw and out comes the flag. As for the taunting penalty, I’m fine with it cuz I hate that ****. Celebrate with your teammates. No need to do any of that extra crap. Only issue was the timing of when Corrente threw it. He waited a full 3-4 seconds after Marsh turned around to go back to the bench before throwing it. That’s also what makes it look shady.I think the stretch where they got the TD called back and then fields got smoked the next 2 plays late was pretty bad. Outside of that I didn't think the calls were that egregious
But that’s not why the Bears lost.

Officiating was atrocious, and most definitely slanted in the Steelers favor. Like by a lot. That’s where I am with the officiating from last nite. I'm wondering if that low block call was the result of Watt or Tomlin calling out the Bears online earlier in the game or something. I swear I noticed a time or 2 where Watt got cut down earlier in the game. Still not a great call, but would at least explain how it seemed to come out of nowhere.
The hits on Fields? Cry me a freaking river.
The taunting call? Eff that ref... especially given the game circumstance. Unless dude was yelling something maybe, but even then just eat the flag. Huge impact on the game for what amounts to looking at the sideline.
As bad as the officials were, that announcing crew was 10x worse. Levy and Greasy have no business being anywhere near big games. Yikes.

I'd prefer announcers not be complete butthole stiffs (hey, Joe Buck) and take a position now and then. It's just not always enjoyable when it's your team not getting the praise. Speaking of praise, which Steelers player was homeless again? James Cancer, Najee Homeless. Would be great to have a feature RB that doesn't have a backstory written by Dickens.

This was weird but I forgot about it until now:
It's the contact between the practice squad scrub doing the taunting and Corrente. It does look like Corrente leans into it.

The funny part about that play is that Marsh did literally nothing to earn that sack. He got blocked for a very long time and for whatever reason the offensive lineman gave up and went to do something else. Ben is old and slow so Marsh had an easy, easy sack and did little to nothing to deserve it.

The second hit on Fields should've been called as a late hit but at the same time, what a **** sell job. He went full District 5 Ducks on that.

Judging by his foot position I think he's trying to brace himself so he doesn't wind up on his butt. This was weird but I forgot about it until now:

Let's see..... Steelers win ugly on national TV........ Yinzers vociferously complaining about TV crew....... Yinzers also complaining about officiating that almost exclusively benefitted the Steelers........ (assorted other generalized crankery)...... *checks calendar*, ah yes. It's Tuesday.

Again, stuff that is a lot less than that is called on a weekly basis in the NFL. They're **** calls all around but at least be consistent about them. The second hit on Fields should've been called as a late hit but at the same time, what a **** sell job. He went full District 5 Ducks on that.

I've seen a lot worse not get called vs Ben. So I don't feel bad for getting the break there

And vs Boswell for that matter

I’m not going to lose any sleep over finally being on the other end of some of these calls.
