Seahawks @ Steelers Week 6 GDT
I’m still sort of shocked at how bad Bush was last night. I was focusing in on him and not only was he being washed on every running play, he was ending up on his back almost every time. If he stinks, this defense really won’t be that great.

He's quickly entered bust territory for me, considering what they did to get him, and where they drafted him.I’m still sort of shocked at how bad Bush was last night. He’s just a guy. He’ll probably play a decade in the league as special teams/2nd string at his position. Def a HUGE whiff by Steelers. He's quickly entered bust territory for me, considering what they did to get him, and where they drafted him.I’m still sort of shocked at how bad Bush was last night. I somehow didn't think the trade to get Devin Bush wasn't as bad as I remembered. It was actually worse.

Is his poor play related to that injury he had last year? Before being injured I heard nothing but good things about him.

I'm absolutely not willing to label Bush a whiff or bust yet.

A first second and a third, wow. Does seem a bit steep

Uh yeah, he was the #10 overall pick and billed as a player ready to step into a big role. I haven’t seen even hints of elite talent with him. He’s a guy that seems to be trending towards someone where if his name isn’t mentioned that’s a good thing. He’s certainly not trending towards being a game changing piece of an elite defense.Same but there’s a lot of “what have you done for me lately” folks in YinzerlandIs his poor play related to that injury he had last year? Based on Rich Hill’s model they overpaid by the value of the 111th pick in the current years draft. Using the original Jimmy Johnson model they underpaid by the value of an early 6th round pick in the current years draft. Really depends on the value you place on the 3rd round pick the following year. Rule of thumb is to use the value assigned to the last pick in the following round due to team performance variability and time value, but knowing that you’re likely to get a compensation pick in that round the following year (the Steelers did) could further decrease the value on one side.A first second and a third, wow. With basic numbers, the JJ model gives the 10th pick a value of 1300. Steelers 20th and 52nd combine for 1230. 112th pick would be the current year equivalent to fill the void. Rich Hill’s model is 369 vs 378, meaning overpayment before the add-on. Personally I had no issue with the trade parameters, especially given that it was a position of need, Bush just hasn’t lived up to being drafted 10th.

I guess that's the issue with trades like that. If the player you draft isn't a home run/potential HOFer, it's an unadulterated failure. Plus, setting point values aside, that's two additional positions of need you could have drafted for. Sure they might not hit, but...

You don't consider a top-10 pick a success if they're not a home-run hitter in a position like that. Bush has been anything but, and he was touted as one to a ridiculous amount. Sure he was trending upwards prior to his injury, but if the average career lasts 3-4 years, I'd say he's closer at this point to being the average, rather than establishing a long career.
There's a lot of time left for him to recover, and maybe the knee truly isn't 100%, but given his rants on social media, I'm inclined to believe he's not really a cerebral player.

And they're also going to come up on Minkah's contract, and for what they gave up to get him - I still don't know if it's worth it. He seems to also be on a down-turn this year, and if he's coming and asking for top-flight money, he's not putting together a real solid year that indicates he's worth that chunk of change.

Minkah has been extremely inconsistent, but using any of the draft trade value models what they gave up wouldn’t even have been enough to move up from 18th to 16th and that’s before you consider that they received a 4th back as well. Valuing that trade is primarily dependent on who they could have drafted in that spot instead.

I was considering what his next contract is going to be. He's going to ask for as much (is rumored) as TJ, and he just hasn't been worth that. I don't suspect they'd make a major financial mistake, but he needs to rebound in a huge way.
