What is your summer thermostat setting?

Postby iamjs » Thu Jun 17, 2021 1:54 pm

while I'm at home: either 72 or 74. Both numbers stick in my head, but I can't remember if I changed from 74 down to 72 or vice versa. This week was nice enough that I don't think I've run my AC at all.

both while I'm at work and after 10 pm: I think 78. I have it set to kick back on an hour before I get home.

We do 75. Any colder than that and the AC would be running pretty much non-stop all day long.

I can't sleep unless I'm cool, which for me is below 73°. The colder the room, the better I sleep.
This ^^^^

The bedroom windows were wide open last night. When I woke up this morning, the thermometer read 60°.

I think there's science that backs that when it's colder, you sleep better (assuming you have a blanket)

I do prefer when the room temp is very cold and I have a big-ass poofy comforter on top of me

Yep. My wife knitted this massive blanket that we have on top of the bed, that not only acts as a weighted blanket, but provides just enough warmth when the room gets cold.

69°. Year-round. But didn't we have this thread already?
Same here. I could deal with it being 73ish during the day, but I don’t understand how people can do that at night. Maybe it’s because my room is on the smaller side and gets hot very easily (even during summer with AC, plus a ceiling fan that runs 365 days a year). I’d prefer to go a degree or two lower at night, but I just keep it set to 69 all day.

I have temp sensors all over the house so depending on the time of the day the A/C runs based off of that sensor. The main thermostat is near a TV so it reads warmer than it is pretty much all the time because of that.

Basically from 6am to like 10pm a/c runs off the living room sensor that is sitting on a table near our couch. During the night (10pm to 6am) it runs off the sensor in our master bedroom.

Looks like right now I have it set to 72 from 6am to Noon, 73 from noon to 10, and then 74 from 10pm to 6am . It's higher at night because in our master we sleep directly below a ceiling fan so it feels much cooler. Plus we have a whole house dehumidifier (plus a smaller one in the basement) so that helps keep the humidity down which makes it more comfortable.

In any event when we are out I monitor via the app, and if it's too hot or humid in the house I think things need cooled down I just adjust remotely and kick it on.
This

Every place I've lived and every place I've worked the answer is different. 74 at work is colder than 71 at home. And it triggers me because my FIL brags about how his home temp reaches 88 even 90+ i think he's said and it's no where near as hot in there compared to my home without AC at 84. His thermostat is just too near his wood burner (winter)

76 during the day, but it drops to 73 at night (shh, don't tell my wife lol). We have ceiling fans in every room.

I'm digging through old emails and found an electric bill from July 2018 - it's $80 more than what it was last July. The variable speed heat pump (installed in December 2018) really has saved us money, and we're actually comfortable.
