TiVo made a change recently to their SkipMode feature, which basically skips right past commercials in one button press. Now - on CBS shows, it seems, it skips most commercials, but starts playing at the CBS commercial right before the show resumes, forcing you to manually fast forward through them. I’ve seen this on multiple shows this week.

there’s been an epidemic of new storage facilities, car washes and oil change places in Wilmington. Most recent news is a beloved bottle shop is going to be torn down for a “Take 5” oil change place (there’s another oil change place less a mile down the road)

this **** is genuinely infuriating. I **** hate these soulless businesses that don’t add any value to the community

I generally agree, but at least it isn’t another vape shop

the storage places are the ones that get me. Americans have so much crap that we need storage places to put it all.

Oh yeah. Before the pandemic, there were two vape shops so close together that if you opened the front door, you could see the other shop. Made no sense to me.

those oil change shops probably make a ton of money

I just wonder what will happen to them in the next 25 years with the growth in electric vehicles.

How do you figure? The local one to me, there are hardly any cars there. Two guys sit around 80% of the time, so when a car finally pulls in, they get maybe $10 profit for the oil change.

I just started to use a mobile oil change service. Dude shows up to my work parking lot and can do everything but engine work for only a little more than a neighborhood shop. No need to miss work or sit at a garage for an hour.

We had a local donut shop get torn down and replaced by an AutoZone. Not a great donut shop but better than Dunkin. 200 yards from an Advance Auto Parts.

Several years later they tore down the convenience store next door and built- a drive thru only Dunkin.

In SF there's a 4-block run of Market St that has like 10 Starbuck's locations. People who live or work in Manhattan probably find that quaint.

I was just there a few weeks ago... now, mind you pretty much stayed in the seaport district/fort point and maybe a little in the Downtown area. But I didn't notice. I saw numerous starbucks and few Dunkins.

Here’s the thing- there’s no “escape lane.” So when you have gotten to the speaker and they are out of what you want or the espresso machine is broken or whatever- you can either order something else or sit awkwardly in the line till it’s clear.
