There is a subset of those pitchers. They pitch in high school, and then scouts recruit and draft everyone that throws harder

Yup. They say percentage wise it's smarter to recruit the toolsy big dudes. Which causes less smart crafty pitchers/players to get to the bigs and succeed. Which reaffirms to the scouts that they should only recruit the big toolsy dudes. I can't blame them really though.

Especially satisfying because the smart baseball people were all anointing the reds the 2nd WC slot because they had so many games remaining against the Pirates, how that was going to spoil the Padres, but actually the Pirates beating up on the Reds is going to give the spot to the cardinals lol.

While I was waiting for coffee to brew this morning, I decided I don't want the pirates to spend even a pittance on a free agent to fill the gap in the outfield with an actual Ben Gamel esque major leaguer. IMO alford and Yoshi have played well enough to play themselves out of the major leagues once and for all. Alford's strikeout rate is amazing (41% of ab's since he returned to the majors on August 7 have resulted in a strikeout), and his walk rate is hilarious (2 in 71 AB's since the return), but his ops is almost .800. so he has played well enough to earn a spot until Tswag comes up and delivers the goods (and by goods, I mean shows that he is not a major league contributor)

Alford seems like the definition of a quad A guy. Which means, the next org he goes to is when he figures something out to become a regular.

Tswag had some crazy shoulder injury no? like one that's going to make his return for the start of 2022 questionable?

I have not seen one of Yoshi's 76 PAs this year. But it seems like he got the part with this audition.

Yoshi has earned a spot imo. Alford, ehh. I think we all know what that K% and BB% is eventually going to lead to, regardless of what the OPS is right now

Plenty of reasons to question TSwag. I haven't really paid attention to him because of a. the injury b. most people wrote him off as a prospect a while back and c. he is just an extension of the GMNH strategy of drafting y guys with no power like Cole Tucker, Newman, Kramer, Craig, etc. He's only had one full season of minor league baseball since he was drafted, and that was way back in 2019. Kind of sucks for him that there was no 2020 season and his 2021 season was ruined by this injury.

Yoshi and Alford have a lot in common in the sense that when they make contact, it is really, really good contact. None of this bullsht opposite field ground balls between third and short stuff we see from colin moran.

This is one of those posts that happen to a 60 win team in September. The only issue is we were also making these posts in April and May

They can at least avoid a 100 loss season with their mini recent surge I guess....

I hope they lose every game the rest of the season. Get the best draft pick as possible at this point.

They aren't getting 1 or 2. They'll get 3 or 4. Currently with the same record as the Rangers.

Baz getting called up by the rays.

Meadows flattening out as a middle of the pack corner outfielder, and glasnow going to have to learn how to pitch without cheating…so, we need this now to remember again how bad the trade was

Meadows’ stats are super weird. He’s fully embraced the three true outcomes to an underwhelming slashline but close to 30 HRs and over 100 RBI.

He seems to play in some sort of platoon down there.
