Rounds 4-7 are all unranked guys. So, looking more like 6 or 7 25-50k bonuses needed to get all these guys signed.

Fourth rounder has a slot value over $500k. I think he’ll get a decent chunk, but it’s not going to take a ton of money for him to break his UConn commitment. 5 through 7 are a fifth year senior, fourth year senior, and fourth year junior. Slot values total about $1MM. They’ll get those three signed for less than $100k.

The context here is that all these high school guys have some leverage and are by no means obligated to accept what the pirates offer. The point of these reporters generating these meaningless anecdotes is to try and decipher if the guy is going to sign or not.

That’s an interesting question….

Lots of cheap picks today with a few high school fliers mixed in. OF Braylon Bishop, who MLB pipeline had ranked at 94 and is potentially headed to Arkansas, was taken in the 14th round. Wonder if he’s insurance against the PSU kid deciding to honor his commitment. Hard to see there being enough money to snag him as well.

Hit his 17th last night. Starting to wonder what to think of this guy. His July stats are nuts, 43 PA, 15H 8HRs, 3BB, 13 K. That's a HR in every 6 at bats, and a K or HR every other AB.

Seems like they've got him to be much more aggressive at the plate. His BA is up, his BB% is down, his K% has stayed the same, and his ISO is through the roof.

I hadn't really put that piece together on him until taking a look at those numbers.
