So this basically gives them over 7mm to sign the five high schoolers. The Arkansas dude will cost at most 500k according to the reporting on that negotiation, and I have no idea what it’s going to take for that Vermont pitcher they drafts in the 5th.

It’s such a buzzkill to be drafted as a senior. There should be a minimum bonus for these poor bastards.

Officially $7,491,100 to sign picks 2 through 5 with any money left over able to go to guys in rounds 11-20.
Edit: with the 5% overage buffer it’s actually $8MM and change.

This could mean a lot of things, but I think in the least it means that they are not tanking in 2022

I can't decide on frazier. There's no way the trade value is that good, but he's also almost 30. But you also can't surround your young studs with a bunch of Ben Gamels or [bites tongue] John Nogowskis

DK's new for Pirates take. It's not the Pirates fault they've been cheap, it's there being no salary cap. He's been doing this post, every time someone says the Pirates are cheap, like "no mention of a salary cap?"

I can decide on Frazier: trade him. he won't produce a gr8 return now and he wont produce a gr8 return later. But he is an all star and among the league leaders in all things hitting. So trade him now. One of my favorite post cutch pirates, perhaps my #1 favorite post cutch pirate, but his time is up. good job good effort.I can't decide on frazier. Why don't they institute a cap floor? That would at least force the Pirates to spend some money. Seems like MLBPA would be all for that.

You can't just like unilaterally impose that. I don't know how many owners are required to ratify an agreement, but there are probably at least 10 teams that wouldn't agree to a floor without a cap (Pirates, Rays, A's, Indians, Marlins, Royals, and probably some more). Why don't they institute a cap floor? I think one of the talking heads pegged his return as 1 decent /ok prospect and a flier. The former would be like in the 6-10 ranking for the org and the flier would be like some 19 year old playing rookie ball. I assume they'll just try to get a package of 2-3 of pitchers, the pitching depth at AAA and AA is not good.I can decide on Frazier: trade him. he won't produce a gr8 return now and he wont produce a gr8 return later. I didn't say anything about doing it unilaterally. I would think most of the teams would want a better product but I'm probably wrong there. You can't just like unilaterally impose that. I truly don't think there are teams that want a better product. I'm all but convinced the Pirates have punted and just live off of revenue sharing.

De Jong gets hit in the knee on a line drive. Which happens when you throw BP to major leaguers with no L screen. Made a sick play though to get the out

De Jong is married to Bernard Langer's daughter and Pavin Smith is named after Corey Pavin. They're currently facing each other. Learning all kinds of good stuff tonight

Corey Pavin is currently 69th in the Champion Tour standings. Nice
