Just because, that's why. I am a total Bond-head going back to junior high, watching the old stuff.

This is a Top 3 pre-credit sequence for me, but there are a couple parts that make me laugh.

At 0:56, when the helicopter goes into a dive and it sounds like a Stuka dive bombing the British at Dunkirk

The cat hissing at 4:00 Classic Bond absurdity.

On a side note, Lynn Holly Johnson in this movie. Great googly moogly.

Poop, there was a documentary posted on YT that was basically the complete BTS of James Bond going back to Ian Fleming's duty in WWII, but I can't find it now. (I could be mistaken, but I think it was supplementary content on the Casino Royale Blu-ray)
:(

This thread has potential. I have many openings that I like, but the FYEO is probably the best over the top one.

The Spy Who Loved me with the Union Jack Parachute is also up there.

How could James turn down being offered a delicatessen vs. dumping Blofeld down the smokestack?

Nothing in cinema history can top the, er, over the top madness of the slide whistle in the original release of The Man With The Golden Gun. Literally the greatest vehicle stunt in the history of the medium was ruined by someone (wrongly) deciding it was a comedy opportunity.

Stabbing Sean Bean with a satellite dish is up there, too.

I don't care much for James Bond (probably because I was not introduced to those films when I was a kid), but one thing I find really funny about the most recent James Bond actor discussions:

Many vocal James Bond fans absolutely do not mind the fact that James Bond goes through decades like Connor MacLeod - driving more and more modern cars, shooting more and more modern guns, fighting enemies from regimes that nobody could think of in 1960s - all while he is not aging a bit. But - the minute the the new movies suggest the ever changing imaginary idea of a super-agent might come with a different hair, skin color, or gender - those rabid fans throw fits of magic proportions... :D

I always presumed "James Bond" was a codename. Bond visited his childhood home in Skyfall, and his parents' grave marker says 'Bond' on it, but I like the idea that the name is an avatar for all the agents that have been designated '007' by MI6 over the years.

Diamonds are forever was the first bond movie I remember seeing with my old man and it was all over from there. Loved watching them all with him when I was young.

"If at first you don't succeed, Mr. Kidd?"

"Try, try again, Mr. Wint!"

Bruce Glover (Crispin's dad) and Putter Smith were great in that.
