Nice hibernation planning. Go sleep.
The Wildlife Thread
Our backyard has a lot of wildlife that either makes its home nearby or travels thru from time to time. We've always had a few bluejays, and I witnessed something the other day that I'd never realized.
My wife started giving them unsalted peanuts about a month ago, and they absolutely love them. It's to the point where if she goes out back and shakes the bag, they're in the tree 30 seconds later. Pretty cool. Anywho, yesterday I'm sitting down here working and she comes down and goes outside to give them some peanuts. She comes back in and goes back upstairs...and then I hear a hawk screeching like a minute later somewhere very close.
My wife is extremely attached to all of our backyard friends, so I went out to make sure the hawk wasn't picking off one of the jays. Don't see anything. Walking back in to my desk...another hawk screech from basically just outside our window. Walk back over...nothing. Decided to sit for a bit outside just to be sure, and then saw it. It's one of the freaking bluejays. He's mimicking a red tailed hawk call to scare the other birds and squirrels/chippys away from the peanuts. That sneaky mfer. I love it.

Sorry to say it, but your story would have been cooler if the hawk ate all the blue jays.
