Don't the data show that it significantly restores protection?

Yes, Pfizer and Moderna's data shows that, along with real-world data from Israel. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I can’t imagine having to deal with daycare through all this ****. Thankfully we’re both work from home still and Junior is still young enough that we’re able to tag team him all day long. Our unvaccinated neighbor, who is an extremely busy hairdresser by trade, started picking up a couple shifts per week at her kids daycare so they can qualify for free tuition. The thought of unknowingly having an unvaccinated dum dum take care of my child is enough to make me want to steer clear of daycares forever.

BREAKING: In an all-day FDA advisory meeting, experts unanimously recommended a coronavirus vaccine booster be authorized for people 65 and older and those at high risk of severe disease. The panel earlier resoundingly voted against approving Pfizer’s application for a broader approval of boosters for everyone 16 and older.

Cool. Cool. Daycare shutting our room down for another two weeks again because of covid. Second time it’s happened since June.
Our school had one positive case and shut the classroom down for two days. Two weeks is crazy

Two weeks is not up to date with the science. That said it changes pretty quickly and not everyone is read up on it.

As for the booster: for normal, everyday people, a booster isn’t needed. I’d rather send those doses to African or South America. Get the world vaxxed. They actually want it. Give it to em.

it’s weird to me how the FDA and the vaccine producers are disagreeing on this. I’d like to know where and why they disagree

I can see why the vaccine makers want to sell the country another dose per person but that’s supported by the data too

Didn’t they FDA say that immunity lessens by 8 months?

Was it really a blow? If the experts say it's largely unnecessary for the general population right now, that's fine with me.

Yeah, I don't get it. The initial reporting on this was that it was some big hit to the Biden administration, and I don't get why. I'll get as many shots as I need to, but if the 2 I already have are sufficient - great!

I think it points to the CDC still being in mitigation mode rather than prevention of transmission mode.

The FDA wants data showing the booster is necessary. Pfizer doesn’t have it.

how does one prove necessity? If it restores protection, how isn’t that a necessity?

They have an idea right now of efficacy. How much more efficacious will a third shot be in a normal person in today’s environment? Pfizer doesn’t have answers.

I heard someone talking on the TV earlier that also thought it might be possible that Pfizer is going to adjust the dosing so that it's a 3-shot course spread out over several months akin to the hep-b vax.

Interesting development in new cases in my home state:

The 7-day moving average went up to 2,339 (in a state of 3 million) on 8/11. But that number has been steadily declining ever since. After today, Arkansas will be at 65% of that max number. I believe the decline is the largest among all US states.

There has been some modest increase in vaccinations (and we are one of the very few states with pro-vaccine R Governor - which makes him quite unpopular among his base). Except for schools - nobody wears masks (and even that is just some school districts). Huge crowds (concerts, 70+K football games), restaurants packed, vacation resorts packed...

I know there was some chatter about pregnancy and covid. Just read this:

https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/17/health/m ... index.html
Mississippi says Covid-19 deaths in pregnant women are rising -- and it's pleading with them to get vaccinated

Wouldn't that be a function of rising death rates for everyone

Death rates rise among the unvaccinated. Unvaccinated pregnant women are unvaccinated. Death rates rise among unvaccinated pregnant women.
