I think the only people getting the shaft here are those that are reluctant to get the vaccine for some sort of good faith health concern. In that case, you are still at risk of getting covid and the anti-vaxers who are now going to roam maskless in the wild pose a threat to you. But seriously, at this point hundreds of millions have gotten the shot, there's been like a dozen j&j blood clots, if you want to participate safely in society, get the vaccine.
To that point, I don't know of anyone who's had trouble finding a shot of Pfizer or Moderna, J&J stuff aside.

thank f*ck the vaccine is effectively a cure. if this was a 50% efficacy situation, we'd have no way out of this.

Coronavirus Lingers in Penis and Could Cause Impotence
https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/2021051 ... -impotence
THURSDAY, May 13, 2021 (HealthDay News) -- Men now have one more compelling reason to get a COVID-19 vaccine — doctors suspect the new coronavirus could make it hard to perform in the bedroom.

How? Coronavirus infection is already known to damage blood vessels, and vessels that supply blood to the penis appear to be no exception.

Researchers armed with an electron microscope found coronavirus particles in penile tissue samples taken from two former COVID-19 patients who became impotent following their infection, which had occurred six and eight months earlier.

Further study revealed evidence of blood vessel damage in the penises of the COVID-19 patients, compared to two other men with erectile dysfunction who'd never been infected, the researchers reported May 7 in the World Journal of Men's Health.

"We found that the virus affects the blood vessels that supply the penis, causing erectile dysfunction," said senior researcher Dr. Ranjith Ramasamy, director of the reproductive urology program at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine. "The blood vessels themselves malfunction and are not able to provide enough blood to enter the penis for an erection."

Ramasamy compared this to organ damage in the lungs, kidneys and brain that's been found in COVID-19 patients.

"We think the penis also could be affected in a similar way," Ramasamy said. "We don't think this is a temporary effect. We think this could be permanent."

Costco, Trader Joe’s, and Walmart are dropping mask requirements. Those stores led the movement for masking. This is all over but the shouting.

Trader Joe's surprises me here. I don't know what they were like where you all live, but out here they were among the most restrictive businesses. It was commonplace to see 15-20 people standing in line outside, as they were very strict about enforcing capacity limits. So much so that I have 2 TJ's within about 3 miles of my house, but I've only been to them like 5 or 6 times during the pandemic; I don't want to stand in a 30-minute line for the chance to get the Sonoma Chicken Salad. So them being so gung-ho this quickly is s little curious.

I guess I’m not understanding the hesitation with lifting mask mandates.

I’m just a little surprised that they’re being lifted by some places right away when the vaccination rate isn’t that high. I don’t shop at those places, so I don’t particularly care, though.

I have a feeling that a large portion of the decision was the unused vaccines sitting. The people that want them have gotten them or at least scheduled to do so. Now al that’s left is anti vaccine nutjobs and the indifferent. For the former, there’s no hope. For the latter, get j&j out to grocery stores, community events, McDonald’s, whatever and just make it super convenient for them. *boop* there’s your shot. Good job.

Couple that with how well the vaccines work and you’ve got a mask mandate being lifted.

Exactly. That was the end game. Everyone that wants a vaccine has a thousand opportunities to get one.

The new(er) TJ in North Hills didn't have a line the few times we went during the pandemic. The one in East Liberty did, stood in it once but only 5 minutes. Last weekend it was around the building and we decided to go shop elsewhere.

Any store can be crowded sometimes but Trader Joe's just seems always crowded.

I fall in the bucket of not finding masks particularly unbearable but I will definitely be glad to not have to put it on anymore- or get somewhere and realize I forgot it.

Since Comrade Cooper lifted the mask mandates yesterday going to Gastonia was a night and day difference from earlier this week when I was up here.

Amazing stuff.

Yeah, TJ's is crazy all the time down here. The store in Columbia (near the University of California South Carolina) usually has a line to get in. But the one down in the Charleston area - a busier store - did away with capacity limits months ago, according to my parents who shop there weekly. It's just dependent on the manager and local tolerance for restrictions I guess.

We had two graduation ceremonies today, and it was the first time I was in a room with that many people in a while. Very odd. Masks still a requirement on our campus, at least for a few more weeks.

Went to a cornhole tournament my company was sponsoring this morning. Stopped at sheetz for coffee and they still had mask signs up. Stopped at Walmart afterward to get ice for a bbq we’re having and they had a sign saying if you’re vaccinated you don’t have to wear masks.

Interestingly enough, a higher percent of people were masked at Walmart than in the sheetz.
