COVID-19

Postby nocera » Thu May 13, 2021 2:41 pm

Looks like my prediction of schools having masks until 2022 was very wrong. The CDC/Fauci are moving much faster than expected. At this rate, most schools will likely have zero restrictions come fall, especially for middle school - college.
Elementary schools will still have to mask up in the fall. No other setting in this country should have any sort of policy now, according to the 6 seconds of thought I’ve spent on this.
:thumb: I think you're probably right, especially if those schools provide a few vaccine drives prior to the first day of school (with transport).

did anything happen in the last week or so that's causing these changes in policy? feels random

I'm not upset about it

I went into the office today as a one off and the three of us on our team who are all fully vaccinated and are still "distanced" from one other are not wearing masks while we sit at our desks and even if we get up and talk to each other.

If we walk around the building or others come over we put them on.

There's nothing random about the new guidance at all. Over 1/3 of the total population of the country is fully vaccinated. In some regions, like New England, you're looking at well over 40% vaccination. And that's a percentage of total population, not just the eligible population.

Is this supposed to be a dig? That what I was saying was actually the scientific truth?

Not really just a reference to your call to end masking.

it's random because Fauci has been talking about how the mask mandate will be around for a while. 30% seems like such a small number for lifting the mandate too

if 30% was the number Fauci has been shooting for the entire time then fine but I highly doubt that's true. Feels like he's more bending to public pressure

Maybe the CDC has decided to take the "F the anti-vaccine crowd" and, if that's the case, I'm fine with that.

I would be behind that if there was any way to actually know if the maskless people are vaccinated.

But are any of the folks who refuse to get vaccinated actually wearing masks anyway? I'm sure I'm biased (because Somerset) but I don't think any of those folks are obeying mask mandates anyway.

The real question is now: will nocera continue to mask while he poops alone in his own home?

if only vaccinated people had a microchip that we can use to scan at public places to prove we've been vaccinated...

I...don’t understand. If you’re vaxed, you’re safe. If you aren’t vaxed, you aren’t worth our collective concern anymore.

I learned that mask mandates are great for plane farts. I can let them rip and as long as they're not 10/10 raunchiness no one is the wiser

We photocopied our vax cards and are getting the copies laminated to carry around, but......... yeah, absent a directive requiring proof, I see this as giving cover to 'hesitant' people to not bother and just say they've gotten shots.
I decided against photocopying ours, and instead put them into a plastic sleeve, similar to a badge/ID holder. I assume that we'd be using the same card should we require boosters in the future.

And altruism has never been the point. Even last year, an 80 year old has had plenty of time in their life to learn to use the internet to order groceries. I didn’t think it was my duty to protect them at Whole Foods. If you wanted to stay healthy and weren’t an essential worker, it was the easiest thing in the world to do. I’d wager most of the 500k deceased should have known better.

the fact that they made it larger than credit card size is inexcusable incompetence. too big to fit in a wallet means people are going to lose them
