It seems as though India's "delta" variant is now running rampant in the UK because Boris didn't close borders in an effort to keep trade deals alive. And now they may be locking down for another month. Brilliant.
Didn't they also prioritize 1 shot over 2 so that there fully vaxxed rate is lower than in the US?
Yeah. My cousin lives in the UK. She got her second AZ shot 12 weeks after the first.

Read an article today saying that the Delta variant could cause problems in the US this fall in thanks to the cretins in the south who refuse to get vaccinated.

the good news is the vaccine is very effective against it

I wonder how many rounds of variants the anti-vaxxers can take before they realize that it's so much easier to just get the vaccine

It'll be the dominant strain in the US by the end of July.
Not sparing children from the data I've seen out of the UK, unfortunately.

They’re effective, but not as effective as they are against the other variants, from what I read. And again, younger people seem to be faring worse.

I read Modfizer is 88% effective, so better than J&J against the regular strain

That’s great then. This just reaffirms my desire to have my daughter vaccinated ASAP.

I often wonder how different the last year and a half would have been if children were most at risk and elderly were not affected. The current alignment of interests would be turned upside down.

I bet it'd be the same, maybe even more hardcore anti-vaxx.

Yeah, I was considering dragging my feet with them, but it's looking more likely that getting them chipped ASAP will be the course of action. At least they'll stop asking to use my hotspot for their tablets.

Speaking of, I saw a tiktok (I know) the other day from a former military guy, making fun of the people who say the vaccines have chips in them, as he compared it to the military basically being unable to track troops in combat. But yeah, they fixed that technology and shrank it in the vaccine.

The Delta Variant (awesome band name) having a harsher effect on kids is terrifying. We'll see what information we have come mid/late August but I might be keeping my kid out of school until he's vaxxed.

are there any numbers about the impact of the Delta variant on kids? I've read the same thing but don't see anything in terms of how many kids show symptoms/need some sort of treatment

Yeah. I’d need to see the numbers. Is it 10x more deadly so Kid’s go from 0.00001% to 0.0001%?

Note: I don’t know what the current danger is to kids. I just know it’s pretty low.

Even if there wasn't a Delta variant, was going to get my kids vaxed as soon as they were eligible. This just cements it.

But to c2i's point, is it still relatively low?

All of them, including masks? Just saw Disneyland lifted all mask requirements for vaccinated guests (aka everybody)

Counties and individual businesses can still require mitigation, but the state government is no longer mandating anything. (Outside of a very few exceptions, like public transit hubs and such)

Vermont did the same. I believe the only place requiring masks is public transit because that's a federal rule at the moment and supersedes state rules. Or at least that's what NPR said this morning.

Vermont was also the first state to hit 80% vaxxed
