COVID-19
I overheard one of the parents at daycare say something similar to the one teacher. “Just like chicken pox… let them all get it and be done with it.”
Her response was right on… “well, we know how chicken pox works, this? Who knows… plus I personally don’t really want to get it if I can avoid it.”

These people act like everyone will have the same, mild reaction. And this conversation was just after then whining about kids wearing masks again. From the start, the kids have been fine with them. It’s all these lunatic parents.

paxlovid. get it if you can.Based on the articles I read the other day, some are. I know there are one or two new ones, but can’t speak to them. I believe you were referring to one of them? The pfizer one. What about the new antivirals? Are they being given to covid patients?Oh ****. I took off work today and I missed the 5-11 recommendation. Never mind me. Last I heard, that recommendation wasn’t supposed to come out for two weeks. Booster awayWhat’s not? Getting boosted for 5-11?Not telling you not to do it, but that’s not the recommendation

Welp, first close contact for my daughter - one of her teammates tested positive after their soccer game on Sunday. She's had a slight runny nose since Saturday, but tested negative this morning (before we found out about the close contact). Gonna test her again Thursday morning before her class trip just to be safe. Really hope she stays negative, as this would be her first school field trip ever, and she has really been looking forward to it.

This week's episode (season finale) of Against The Rules was both incredible and anger inducing. It discusses, with the benefit of hindsight, posts like these:

I recommend going and giving it a listen. Too long did not listen: a professor at Stanford who made a name for himself in calling out crappy science with huge sweeping claims wrote a paper about how COVID isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be using crappy science and huge sweeping claims.
He originally forecasted that about 10,000 deaths would come from COVID based on data that had such huge error bars that it was essentially worthless.
Even in the face of mounting evidence that he was wrong, he went on to blame doctors for deaths and pretty much started the "They didn't die from covid, they died with covid." A group out of Australia wrote a paper where they gathered similar studies to his and analyzed all the data as a whole. It showed how completely wrong he was/is and his response was "They're just Ph.D. students..."

It is. Definitely is. But you posted in asking for some sort of expert in the field and their thoughts. This dude was an expert in his field. He and his crew were not dummies. But they spoke with such certainty in a time of uncertainty that there was a portion of the population that latched onto what he said and used his qualifications as justification to ignore anything else (even if the others were experts as well).woah woah woah, my post is totally unlike the others

@LITT : Have you seen the recent articles on paxlovid and rebounds? Any thoughts on it? To me, preventing hospitalization has to be priority one, and if it means you hav ego test/mask a bit longer to ensure that you don’t spread it, that’s okay.
That said, being able to shorten the period of contagiousness would be huge, if somebody could do that.

Anytime we get a tickle in our throats we test. That’s what they’re for. That’s how I found I was positive. I was on my way out the door to work and had a bit of a runny nose. Free tests? May as well give one a go.

Thanks, she tested positive Friday night and seems unfazed now. Which to me is a good sign cause she’s unbearable dealing with discomfort or illness.Hope you both recover quicklyWe’re a COVID house now. Wife got it traveling, came home, infected me.
I am not worried about it for me

Not to jinx anything, but 5th day put me out for two days after feeling good for the first four. After going years without a sinus infection, I've had 3 since covid in January. No idea if it's related, but it's pretty strange.Four straight days of no symptoms, tomorrow makes five. Pretty much a nothingburger so far. Went for a light jog today, no issues with breathing. So I think I'm pretty good shape...

a buddy of mine works for Microsoft and just had his first international trip in over 2 years. he was in Singapore exactly 24 hours before he tested positive. he's now stuck in Singapore, confined to his hotel room and availing himself of their version of Uber Eats.
