COVID-19
Our gub'ner - to appease the imbecile anti-science base - issued an executive order yesterday afternoon giving parents the choice of whether or not to have their kids wear masks at schools.
Of course, school districts were caught off guard, and the order came in late in the day when most administrators were gone for the day. So they had to issue a press release stating they are working with the state health department on a waiver for parents to fill out, and to continue wearing masks until the form is ready. Schools end within the next 3-4 weeks across the state anyway.
He also wanted counties/municipalities to end their mask mandates now that the vaccination is widely available...so that's already beginning as well.

Sounds like that's a form that will take at least 3-4 weeks to write.Source of the post Of course, school districts were caught off guard, and the order came in late in the day when most administrators were gone for the day. Because contact tracing these is impossible.https://reason.com/2021/05/11/cdc-great ... dium=email
As David Leonhardt over at The New York Times makes clear today, Walensky and her agency are wildly overstating the risks of getting infected outdoors. As he explains:
That [10 percent] benchmark "seems to be a huge exaggeration," as Dr. Muge Cevik, a virologist at the University of St. Andrews, said. In truth, the share of transmission that has occurred outdoors seems to be below 1 percent and may be below 0.1 percent, multiple epidemiologists told me. The rare outdoor transmission that has happened almost all seems to have involved crowded places or close conversation.
Saying that less than 10 percent of Covid transmission occurs outdoors is akin to saying that sharks attack fewer than 20,000 swimmers a year. (The actual worldwide number is around 150.) It's both true and deceiving.…
These recommendations would be more grounded in science if anywhere close to 10 percent of Covid transmission were occurring outdoors. But it is not. There is not a single documented Covid infection anywhere in the world from casual outdoor interactions, such as walking past someone on a street or eating at a nearby table.
I mean, I would agree that the chances of transmission is very low, look at the protests last summer and their limited effect on COVID numbers, but claiming with any authority what that actual rate is, be 0.1% or 1% seems pretty foolish.

@MR25??This is something that's been bugging me this whole time during the pandemic.............. who wants to wear masks????I don't want to wear them....
COVID-19
I only said it didn't bug me, and I wouldn't mind wearing one if it was mandated going forward.
It's inconsequential to me. It doesn't mean I "like" it, but I don't actively hate it. Neutral, if you will.
Obviously having the vaccine changes that slightly, but during winter months when everyone gets sick? If it helps me not get whatever sickness people spread around, it wouldn't be the end of the world for me.

I like masks. I don't want people to know my emotions.

OK, so our governor says parents can sign a waiver to stop having their kids wear masks in school.
Our state health agency, says fine…here’s the waiver but we feel you should keep your masks on in closed locations (instead of our plan of waiting 3-4 weeks to issue the form/waiver when the school year is finished)
State education superintendent - also GOP - immediately removes her department’s mask recommendation, but calls the governor crass and intentionally being divisive about a mask policy that was set to expire in most districts in a few weeks anyway.
Our district sent out the waiver form and said - have at it.
What a mess.

California to effectively end mask mandate when state fully reopens next month, Gov. Newsom says

If this happens in CA, it’ll happen in every other state by that date as well.

So the bullshit has already started with the masks in schools. My younger son is already concerned that he'll be made fun of for being the only one with a mask on in school. We haven't decided yet, but probably will keep in a mask for the 3 weeks left of school unless the teasing gets bad. He's usually not bullied or anything at school, but who knows how it will go moving forward.

My sources at the school across the street said about 80% of kids over at the Elementary school didn't bring a mask to school today.
