COVID-19

Postby NAN » Wed Jul 21, 2021 9:36 am

From a selfish standpoint.. I'm vaccinated, my wife is vaccinated.. my immediate family is all vaccinated so I don't feel I have much to worry about.

I'm sure if I had young kids I'd be a bit more concerned since they would be not vaccinated at this point. I'm just going on about my life at this point, but like others if these unvaccinated mouth breathers make everyone go back to masking up come the fall...I'll be pissed off.
I feel the same way, except I have the young kids, but I'm not as concerned as of right now.

There is a couple I'm friends with, have kids, etc, that aren't necessarily anti-vax, but they are not vaccinated yet because they claim they just don't have time to go get it. Even though they literally live down the street from a CVS.

This is more frustrating from my standpoint than the people I know that either a) don't believe COVID is anything but the flu, or b) are anti-vax. At least in their mind, whether right or wrong (in this case wrong), they have reasoning. This couple is just pure up lazy.

I have a young kid who already had COVID, and outwardly did nothing to bother him. I am concerned about unknown down-the-line factors if it did anything to his lungs, etc.

Exactly. I'd prefer my daughter getting covid and coming down with weird issues that could follow her for a long time. So again, **** these selfish people.

Well this was before people even had a chance to be selfish. I guess my thought system is, we're as protected as possible, our immediate family is as well. Our son got sick before vaccinations were rolling out as wide as they are. If it happens, it's gonna happen, and there's basically zero I can do about it - because we have to work, and we can't keep him home forever.

So the small local "Health Store" chain has the below on their website

https://www.healthhutstores.com/covidvaccineinfo

Their coffee shop is good and I like supporting local businesses but actively trying to get people not to get vaccinated? That's gonna be a big GNC and Dunkin for me from now on, dog.

They point out 32,000 adverse reactions to the vaccine out of what, 155M people vaccinated as a reason to not get it? No vaccine, let alone anything is ever going to bat 1.000. I think that proves it's pretty safe.

Thank them for their concern and remind them of their oath to “Do No Harm.”
Yea, the worst thing that happened was that some of these people haven't had the tragedies other people who deserved it less have had. In any walk of life.

All HIPAA states is that your medical professionals, insurers, and other health care entities can't share info without your permission. Period. Amazing to me how many people think it includes other things.

"An Overwhelming Majority of the Vaccine Hesitant are Trump Voters or did not Vote"

Image
When President Biden visited Philadelphia a week or so ago, shouting Jim Crow from the rooftops, he should have castigated the Philly locals for not getting vaccinated. Philadelphia county, Biden's lefty base, is coming in at 10% vaccinated, dead last in PA.

https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/diseas ... board.aspx
82% of unvaxxed people right now are Trump/did-not-vote. Yes, I have no empathy for any of them right now, regardless of demographic. But to suggest that this subset of people in one city is in any way exerting a statistically significant impact on the overall situation is kind of a giant raging fail horn.

Edit: Oh, I see other posters have already addressed this. nvm

Yeah, I don't think that's what KC is doing.

I was ranting to my wife last night about this very topic. The unvaxxed don't necessarily cause variants, but there's no question they are behind the surge right now.

I'm on board with continuing to open up and letting the unvaxxed fall where they may, but i doubt the government is.
The article shyster posted showed that the virus is less likely to mutate in vaccinated people. What I'm saying is that we can get damn near everyone in this country vaccinated and there are still going to be mutant variants that make it over here and potentially "break through", considering global vaccination rates will never be meaningful.

I know right now we are being told hospitalizations heavily favor the unvaccinated population, but who says that's the case with the next variant that comes out of some third world country?
The problem isn't that the unvaxxed will be a source of variants so much as it is that they will continue to be pretty much the sole transmission vector for those variants. Breakthrough infections are something like 5% of cases, but something like 99% of current hospitalizations are unvaxxed patients and the CDC estimates that over 80% of them are Delta cases. And so long as there are variants, wherever they originate, there is the possibility of denuded effectiveness of existing vaccines. So yes, unvaxxed people in the US will continue to be a major problem in terms of getting this nonsense under control.

I'm firmly in the camp that they can make their own choice and deal with their own consequences. I'm vaccinated and already had covid so I shouldn't have as much to worry about.
This concept simply does not exist in reality. There is no way to 'make their own choice and deal with their own consequences' in a vacuum; every infected person can potentially infect 4-5 other people before they have any idea that they might even be sick, especially if we're abandoning mitigation practices.

Fun fact: If California was still using the tier system of mitigation, LA County would officially be Purple, the most restrictive measures. And it's nearly aaaaallllllll unvaccinated asshats at this point.

F**k them all, directly in their skulls.

https://www.al.com/news/2021/07/im-sorr ... ssion=true

I’m admitting young healthy people to the hospital with very serious COVID infections,” wrote Cobia, a hospitalist at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, in an emotional Facebook post Sunday. “One of the last things they do before they’re intubated is beg me for the vaccine. I hold their hand and tell them that I’m sorry, but it’s too late.”

What is the goal here? Just keep the vaccination rate low enough to ensure we have to close **** down again under Biden?

The last 2 paragraphs regarding the answers people give as to why they are not vaccinated "saw this on Facebook, heard this on the radio" only to be answered by a "no" when she asked if they talked to their primary care doctor. :face:

More in things that didn't happen. If you google the stats for Jefferson County (Birmingham) where this hack fraud says she practices there has been one covid death in weeks.
Despite the rise in cases and hospitalizations, Alabama has not seen a significant rise in coronavirus deaths. The state is averaging just under six virus deaths per day, and deaths here have been essentially flat for several months.

Didn’t someone here have family that was anti-vaccine, got sick and started searching to find a vaccine?

Both things can be true. The numbers can be low and they can still be asking for a vaccine on their way to being intubated.

That’s me. Oh but they’ve recovered now and are no longer interested in the vaccine.
