is there data to suggest that indoor services that required masking and social distancing contributed to the spread of covid?
I don't think so. The problems came in the places that did not require masks or distancing. Anecdotally, I've seen a fairly decent overlap of church goers and people who downplayed COVID. Masked up and distanced, there's no reason why you couldn't have indoor service. I also like that many churches provided a virtual feed for those who didn't feel comfortable attending in person.

Ours has been doing the Twitch route since last March.
I believe the technical term is “holy roller” and not Twitch

Pretty sure when LITT asks a question like this, its rhetorical

I am grateful to be in a church that despite being evangelical and conservative, was extremely cautious and continues to be with in person worship. Only recently have they started having people back, and it's still very spaced out, etc.

Our pastor and assistant pastor were two of the first to get the vaccine and have been vocal about that too which is nice. A big part of one of the sermons back in December was how subscribing to conspiracy theories is not Christian and makes the rest of us look bad.

The one church I "attend" (albeit sparingly) has not met in person since last March. They still aren't. But the pastor does a FB live every Sunday morning and uploads it to the church website every week.

Our church is all about the masks and social distancing. During the beginning of the pandemic, only the priest, a reader, and the deacon were allowed in and they streamed mass on Youtube. Around late summer last year, they starting letting some people in, but you had to sign up and it was very few, but they still streamed.

Now they are letting more in, but you have to still sign up, but everyone sits every other pew, and only the people you are with are allowed in a pew.

We haven't gone and have been watching on Youtube. But we did go for my daughters first communion recently and it was nice.

I don't mind people going to mass as long as it's being done responsibly.

why did people want to go to church in COVID times?
I don't understand the attraction of church/religion in non-COVID times, so I'll leave it at that.

I just saw that the FDA is set to authorize Pfizer for 12-15 year olds by early next week.

On a side note our workplace is slowly trying to transition back to our 3 days in office 2 days at home pre-pandemic setup. Thursday of this week our team is going in for one day to kind of get a tour of the new building and see how things are set up. Based on the above I am betting after Memorial day they are going to want to get back to that 3/2 setup pretty quickly.

I knew it was coming no matter what because of the new building being built, but still not looking forward to driving into work and dealing with traffic several days a week.

I like the idea of having a target. "Once we hit 70% of adults, masks are gone." Make the antimask and antivax crew pick which one they want.

This is not surprising considering the 12-15 announcement will be Friday. There is only one more logical step to go 2-11 and the September timeframe is the same amount of time it took to get 12-15 done.

Hopefully that last 20% climb to get to 70% isn't that bad.

The people refusing to get vaccinated also refuse to wear masks.

all schools need to lift mask requirements, then. we can't have another year messing with our kids' brain wiring where they have to interpret facial expressions using 33% of the canvas. get them back to normal. 09/2021 is the enough is enough moment. people who have been vaxed deserve to not have COVID as part of their lives anymore.

Well, it's not really a matter of deserves... and realistically the virus doesn't care about arbitrary "enough is enough" deadlines. It all comes down to the numbers. If hospitals aren't going nuts, if deaths aren't all that high, then sure. Let's move on.

"enough is enough" means no mask or distancing requirements anywhere at any time. after september, i don't see justification for waiting any longer to move on. and let the government work on convincing the CHUDs.

Right... To me, it doesn't have anything to do with some sort of weird arbitrary date. It has to do with the numbers.

this is my direct boss. I've never seen a mask on him and he's told us all that he won't get vaxxed because he doesn't get flu shots either. he's out sick today and our big boss says he believes it's round 2 of COVID for him and that this past weekend he was at an event with 200 to 300 people.

That's my big thing. Even with 25% capacity or what not right now the people who do go in have to wear a mask all day. Thursday when our team goes in for the first time.. mask on at all times. Just not something I'm looking forward to. I assume it's going to be like 1 day a week now or voluntary, then once Memorial day hits we are going to transition back into 3 in the office, 2 at home.
