COVID-19

If the virus is aerosolized then a cloth mask will do almost nothing to stop it.
It is unlikely to stop it, but it can definitely diminish the viral load.

Despite the seriousness of the thing, 'viral load' will never not make me chuckle.

C2I I believe posted studies for masks that showed cloth masks did almost nothing and some actually increased infection chance. So why can’t cloth masks be talked about here? Do you have a study that says cloth masks work?

It did not show that. It showed that cloth masks do not offer protection to the wearer. Something that has been known forever. It did not show masks do nothing.

Once they become saturated or moist they will definitely offer limited protection from a person exhaling also. It should be wear medical masks or no masks. A majority of people do not wear masks correctly and are most likely inadvertently causing more issues. Maybe there needs to be an infomercial on how to properly wear all types of masks for maximum protection.

When you say “don’t wear masks correctly,” what do you mean?

This study is the first RCT of cloth masks, and the results caution against the use of cloth masks. This is an important finding to inform occupational health and safety. Moisture retention, reuse of cloth masks and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection. Further research is needed to inform the widespread use of cloth masks globally. However, as a precautionary measure, cloth masks should not be recommended for HCWs, particularly in high-risk situations, and guidelines need to be updated.

The Dutch were conducting an open world mask study but stopped it.

I didn't say all masks don't do anything. Just cloth masks are almost useless. When people cough in these masks it might stop it from shooting straight out, but they are poorly fit and the aerosols will just go out all around the mask. Being inside and the fact that this virus can stay in the air for up to 3 hours means you aren't doing much with these types of masks.

Not form-fitting, under the nose, touching the mask constantly, etc.

I don’t think anyone here is advocating for cloth masks for high risk situations. The people that need to be in high risk situations obviously should have better protection for themselves. For everyday situations, all the experts are saying to wear a mask and a cloth mask is better than nothing. So stfu and wear a mask.

I do wear my form-fitting mask and you should too. I thinks it's **** ING worthless to wear non-form fitting masks in an inside space for hours. Defies logic on how that is even considered something that could possibly work effectively.

Ignore function is kind of like a mask. I use it, but still get exposed to bullshit anyway.

Greatly reduces the quantity so I will keep using it.
