Ah, that makes sense. I couldn't understand such a ridiculous jump in prices.

What Ulf said. Lots of locations sold off their inventory during covid, and are just now getting vehicles back. Those who waited on a rental car in Maui two weeks ago were paying upwards of $500/day.

We just rented a car for 9 days and aren’t returning it to the same location. Let’s just say we should’ve bought a small car and just ditched it in the desert.

My company must have a really good contract with National. I rented at JFK on Tuesday and returned to PIT on Saturday. $350. Everywhere else was over $1200 though and I had to book direct with National, corporate tool said no cars available- think my status guaranteed availability.

I have found that universities have really good discount codes for Budget. I have been using the same one for over a decade now, and nobody has ever been able to touch it, including Costco, which is always touted as one of the best.

Supposed to travel to Canada in late August...borders still not open. Supposed to be some sort of decision this week on it I guess. This is for one of my wife's best friends wedding. I told her if they don't make a decision on whether or not to open this week at some point we have to be like we just can't go. Can't wait till the last minute to try and get tickets and all of that fun stuff. It sucks cause the wedding has been postponed several times already. We are only one of a handful of people who are coming in from the US, but my wife is supposed to be in the wedding which makes it harder to not be able to go.

What part of Canada? Could you drive? I do trade shows in Montreal and Toronto and drive 8-9 hours to get there from NJ.

Calgary....which is like 30 hours by car I think from Pittsburgh? So that's a no go.

Yeah I've heard it's a fun place to visit. We shall see..we are both fully vaccinated so hopefully they open it up enough that we can go without having to quarantine for several days or something.

I thought I read that vaccinated Americans will be allowed to enter Canada by the end of the month?

That's the rumor. Supposedly something being announced later this week. In any case we need to know sooner than later to still buy plane tickets and such.

Banff NP is on my bucket list. Check it out if you get the chance - amazing scenery.

I would love to do a combined Banff/Canadian Rockies/Calgary Stampede trip. Maybe swing by and check out the Hart Dungeon.

My parents did that trip a few years ago and raved about it. There's a golf guy who lives there and has extolled its virtue. I had it in my queue for fall of last year and try to combine it with Calgary and Vancouver and try to work a hockey game in at one or both places. But, Covid. So now I've got it in my mind for fall 2022 but I'm told I need to do the trip before middle of October due to potential weather issues.

If you're into skiing it may be worthwhile...

We're not avid winter sports people, but one of our pastimes is attending the Banff Mountain Film Festival tour every year when it comes to Pittsburgh. The live awards show is in November every year at Banff, so when we go we'll most likely go then.

And of course if you're going to go all the way up to Banff, why not hit Glacier NP and Vancouver and Calgary, etc, etc. Then it turns into this whole Canadian Pacific Railway adventure that requires months off and a million dollars so we just end up going to the beach :D

Anyone ever visit Great Wolf Lodge? @shafnutz05? We're looking at doing 2-3 days next month before school starts up, and am wondering if it's worth it.

We went to the one in Ohio I think a few years ago for a few days for my niece's birthday. Seemed like a great place for kids to blow of energy and do things.
