Well the TSA precheck thing was a breeze. We were in and out in like 10 minutes. Answer some questions, scan your passports, check your info, fingerprint you and you are on your way. Just have to wait to get our KTN now.

when you get that KTN, make sure it's added to all of your airline loyalty accounts. that way, it shows up on all your boarding passes and you breeze right through the line.

I have a capital one venture card (they reimburse one of the two fees we paid today towards pre-chck) that I use when we travel or book travel (as well as daily to get miles to rack up). They also have some capital one lounges but there aren't a ton. If we really start travelling more I'll look into getting a higher end travel card, but the venture card works for us for now.MalkinIsMyHomeboy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 3:22 pm welcome to the good side skully. now you get to look down on all the plebs who have to take off their shoes

I also use a Venture card as my daily driver. Fyi you can use miles/pts on Amazon.

Attending a show at the Javits Center. Staying in NJ just across the river.
When I travel I look for three things:
1. Craft beer bar/brewery
2. Pizza
3. A margarita and Mexican food.
Any suggestions?

I've been to 3-4 Fancy Food Shows (that's the name of the trade group or whatever) at the Javits Center but not in 20 years - tales from my previous life. Most of our old standbys are long gone, sadly. I do need to get back up there though.
My son graduates from high school and is headed off to Clemson in the fall. I would love to take a father and son trip somewhere and NYC might just be it. I'm interested in what others suggest for you c2i.

Javits is right next door to Hudson Yards, I think that's kind of what that area is all about. (Food and merriment) But mikey is the resident NYer, so definitely do what he says.

Los tacos No. 1 has a location about 20 minutes from the Javits center. Those are good tacos but no margaritas I believe.
Hudson yards probably wouldn’t be c2i’s jam

There's a whole new priority line now, TSA precheckers can't hold their nose at anyone.MalkinIsMyHomeboy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 3:22 pm welcome to the good side skully. now you get to look down on all the plebs who have to take off their shoes

So, I have to cut my Florida trip early next week. I booked an American Airlines flight back home that has a connection in DC. They offered this flight and it is as follows:
7:33 - 9:25 Washington
10 - 11 Pittsburgh
Will I even have enough time to get to the next flight? I checked and it is 2 different planes. Guess I am just getting scared that one little delay could screw me

Everyone else on the board -
I would just check what the arriving flight is on your flight to DC. If you're anxious about missing the flight, and it's scheduled to arrive that morning, I would look to move it. But if it's a plane that arrived the night before, it should be ready to board and take off on time.

I hope you don't mean Clear. I can't speak for other airports but in ATL, the Clear line is usually longer than the TSA Pre-Check line.Troy Loney wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 8:34 am

sounds like Clear needs to start recruiting in Pittsburgh. they're very aggressive in ATL about getting people signed up on the spot.Troy Loney wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 9:55 am Every Monday I fly out of Pittsburgh, there’s no one in the clear line and the tsa lines are almost to the doors

I looked it up. I've seen Clear before but never knew what it was
apparently it's run by a private company and allows you to go to the front of hte line of a security line. It's $189/year so substantially more expensive than precheck and if you don't have precheck you still have to go through the normal security stuff. also not every airport has it (Charlotte doesn't)

Afaik Clear does not exempt you from security screening. It's a biometric process rather than document based, so you have to do a fingerprint thing. And it is less widely distributed than Pre, so you're more likely to find a scenario like where your home airport might have it but not your most frequent destination(s).
However, Clear is used at some non-airport type places like sports stadiums and concert venues. I'd be more interested in researching that aspect of it than the travel benefits.

Clear essentially allows you to skip whatever line you are eligible for (regular or precheck)
Global entry allows you to get through customs quickly (or quicker).

I am a Southwest avoider but got a $58 flight to BWI today rather than drive 6 hrs to my friend’s memorial south of DC. Got spot B-14 but the whole exit row was open.
I guess it’s not that bad if you just have one flight but I worry about connecting and my first flight being late putting my ass in the last seat on the second.

It might be a little snooty, but when I was going from one terminal to the little off shoot terminal at Philadelphia to come back to state college, I stopped quick to grab a coffee in the terminal that was all southwest, frontier, and I think spirit and jet blue were there too. Good lord… made me think of a Chuck E. Cheese without any games. Kids just running everywhere. Moms and dads yelling. I got my coffee and got the f*ck out.

That's definitely terminal E. Only went through it once when our gate was changed during some construction.
