Do we need a West Side Story remake? The music is among the best ever for Broadway. The original film is perfect. I mean, it's even set in the 50s like the original. It will be good, I'm sure, but unnecessary.
His entire career, Spielberg has wanted to make a musical. The dance competition in 1941!, and the opening to Temple Of Doom are the closest he's ever really gotten to doing that. I'm not entirely sure WSS is in need of a remake, but if there's one director I feel safe entrusting it to, it's Spielberg. And I'm also glad that they can do it now, while at least Sondheim is still around, and Rita Moreno can get a new part.

Also, I'm stoked to see Ari DeBose as Anita.

The teaser didn't do much to set it aside from the original. Like I wouldn't be surprised if you told me it was a shot for shot remake. I don't understand the point but hey you do you, Steven.

Nomadland has an impressive amount of product placement for a film about roughing it

also a 1:48 runtime is probably 20 minutes too long which is also impressive

Watched the two Percy Jackson films with my kids this week. Not great. Had a real urge to watch the first few minutes of True Detective though. :pop:

Pixar staffers frustrated by decision to send movies straight to Disney Plus: 'It's hard to grasp'
https://www.insider.com/pixar-staffers- ... oul-2021-4

Give it a read before mocking Pixar staff for whining. I get it. Disney's choice to make some films a "Premium" release makes Pixar films feel like a lesser film, though most everybody knows that isn't true. The other major issue coming up starting with Luca is that it will not be eligible for an Oscar. The Academy allowed streaming films to be eligible this year due to the pandemic. That rule is gone now.

I like the HBO Max/theatrical release solution, though I know that's changing too. Disney deciding some films are worth an extra $30 but Pixar films are not is baffling.

:fist:

Thanks, mate. This is actually one of my favorite videos of all time, and is exactly what you hope you're going to get when you see "Harrison Ford reacting to magic" in the caption.

I thought it was recent as Ford looks ... well, old.

Mortal Kombat was exactly what I thought it would be. Aside from visual effects, it's on par with the first movie.

It's actually like 6 or 7 years old, I think. That's how old Harrison Ford is. lol

I admittedly hold ill-placed nostalgia for the first (which is not good), but I thought this movie was pretty awful. Awesome first fight, awesome final fight, good work on getting some awesome fatalities and finishers into the mix, but everything in-between those bookend fights was pretty awful. The cast SUCKED and was somehow worse than the first film (and even the sequel and fan films/web series), Cole Young was an awful character to invent as the focal point, Johnny Cage was missed, I have no idea who most of the Outworld fighters were, story sucked, etc etc. The original was dumb fun. This was just dumb.

Well, they do say the internet is a fantastic medium for finding those with completely opposing opinions.

Have a good weekend, DD.

I was going to post my thoughts after watching MK today, but DD basically said what I was going to say.
