Didn't realize batman v superman could have got worse, but Snyder wanted to call it "Son of Sun and Knight of Night". Hahahahahaha. So glad he's done with DC

Sound of metal was fantastic. The sound design of this movie was gnarly, I felt the dread and anxiety he was going through and the way they meshed that with the audible sounds throughout the movie was just incredible. The sound told the story itself. Very well done.

Tenet was confusing but really very interesting. I'm going to have to watch it a few more times, but it's definitely a unique look at time travel and spy thrillers.

Agreed. I was trying to explain to the kids what was happening while watching and I thought I had a good grasp, then read about it afterwards and it was like I saw a completely different movie haha

I searched for your comments and lol'ed. I was stone sober and had trouble following it.

My poor wife - who doesn't watch anything more strenuous these days than This Is Us - really struggled with it.

Haha, my wife won't even watch a new Nolan movie anymore, she just says have fun, I'm going upstairs to watch Golden girls. She is always able to figure everything out even if she closes her eyes and just listens. It's crazy how I'm able to see the completely wrong things during a movie or book and think I'm right

I think I liked Nomadland better than eddy did.

I don't think a straight documentary would've worked as well because you would be observing the real-life nomads, removed from their day to day life. The Fern character IS the audience, much like the book author who ended up being a nomad off and on for long stretches while she wrote the book. Both were outsiders, learning how to live and adapt to van living, and the viewer/reader experienced it with them. I'm not sure non-book readers would get the film, although I'm not sure.

The music and cinematography were great, although it's hard to take a bad picture in a lot of those locations where they filmed. I really do need to get out west at some point.

David Straithairn's real-life son plays his son, which was cool. (And who is married to Grace Gummer, Meryl Streep's daughter. So Straithairn and Streep are in-laws)
I agree with this re: the documentary angle. I thought Nomadland was a very engrossing and worthwhile film. Very much captures the goal of "transporting you into another world" that cinema so often tries to achieve.

But eddy's points are valid too. It does those people a disservice not to at the very least touch upon some of the monetary and especially physical hazards of the lifestyle. It didn't have to be much, and Zhao can always have her cake and eat it to by saying "hey this is a work of fiction," but when you've got the actual people playing versions of themselves, and you're telling their story, you're doing them a disservice by not making a stronger attempt at showing a fuller picture. If anything, illuminating those sacrifices would further emphasize the intangible aspects of the beauty of the chosen lifestyle, and IMO is the main thing holding back the film from being truly great.

My biggest problem with Nomadland was you have Frances McDormand acting out of her **** mind (as usual) against horrible acting real folks just to get "authenticity." It did the opposite for me and took me out of the film. I don't want to see regular people who can't act, especially when those people are going toe to toe with a master like McDormand.

I mean, McDormand was great -- unless you're referring to "out of her mind" as "really good" then I don't agree. I thought she was very restrained and did a great job blending in.

No way Nomadland is a better movie than Minari or Sound of Metal. There's some really good things happening in Nomadland, they just forgot to include those in the movie.

I'm saying McDormand was great, as she always is. When you have somebody who is a master of their craft having to "play" with amateurs, the amateurs stand out in a very negative way.

No disagreements with the sentiment in general -- I actually thought the amateurs generally held their own. Swankie nails her monologue, for instance. Funnily enough I thought David Strathairn was among the weakest of the ensemble.

She was great, but from my standpoint and being a huge fan of the book, I wanted more of everyone else who had a true story to be heard, not a made up character with a made up love interest. I really thought it did a disservice to the actual important things that should be talked about. Cinematography and music was the best part about it.

Of the films I've seen that are nominated, Minari has best of everything going for it. Just an all around exceptional movie.

They released the first 7 minutes of the new Mortal Kombat movie and it is absolutely brutal in a good way.

(But not the Rush with the soundtrack that included Tears in Heaven)
