I'm sure you'll be able to fawn over it come awards time.

Eh I think LMM gets his EGOT for best song but that's about it.

Side note, I hope LMM retires from performing and instead casts Anthony Ramos in the Lin role in everything he does moving forward.

I watched Big Lebowski for the first time in 10+ years.

In that time span, I have since read a number of Raymond Chandler books for the first time. I can't tell if it enhances or detracts my appreciation of the movie seeing it as a spoof of a Chandler novel. I think it maybe made it appear more formulaic, as opposed to my initial (19 year old) internal understanding of it being this like amazingly creative piece of comedic writing.

It probably just changes my understanding, the scenes where **** just goes of the rails still kill.

i hear what you're saying troy. i watched it last night which was the first time since delving into film noir during quarantine. I think it enhanced it for me.

I have probably watched the "This isn't Nam this is bowling Smokey, there are rules" scene about 1200 times.

Luca was okay. I’d put it in Pixar’s B tier.

Agree. It had “straight to video” vibes IMO. The “bad guy” was missing something that I can’t quite put my finger on. The monster hunting was supposed to be a big deal but wasn’t developed. Even the main characters were kinda meh. It was enjoyable for what it was but nothing that stuck out in any sort of way.

That’s a good way to summarize it, yes. Visually beautiful, though (Dolby Vision).

Enjoyed Luca. It was good fun. Not outstanding or earth shattering, but a fun Saturday night curled up on the couch with the kiddos.

Finally watched the Jim & Andy doc. As a lifelong wrestling fan, I can say with absolute certainty that the film is a work. Now, he was definitely an dadhole to folks on set for the sake of the doc. That part is legit. The Lawler stuff was obviously planned. The method acting was probably partly legit. I don't think he stayed in character the entire time on set and most of that was put on for the doc crew.

We watched Hunt for the Wilderpeople over the weekend. What a great movie. About my only critique is the lady that plays the child services lady is a bit too much over the top. I know she's supposed to be, but it annoyed me. Beyond that, loved it. If you like action/adventure comedy, give it a look.

Not sure how I missed it, but I watched Moonrise Kingdom for the first time last week. Loved it. I shouldn't like Wes Anderson but I really enjoy most of his films.

I was in Afghanistan for the first half of 2012 and my wife had cancer the second half?

For some reason Prime Video has been labeling everything as having been released in 2021. So when we watched it I legit thought it was a new movie until I read up on it on Wikipedia.

So I guess you have a pretty good idea how you missed it, too, and were just flat out lying to us in your first post. You scoundrel.

Wes Anderson is solid. I've enjoyed all of his movies except for Isle of Dogs. I don't know what it was but that just didn't do it for me.

Come to think of it the only WA film I've seen in theaters is Grand Budapest. Which came out shortly after Moonrise.
