I'm of the opinion that we didn't need any sequels to Jurassic Park. The first movie is perfection. So yeah, Lost World is contrived and bends over backward to make a sequel necessary. It's still miles above 3.
Movie Thread
Also, it's not necessarily a question of 'better'. It's a matter of expectations. When Steven Spielberg comes back and directs a sequel to one of the most consequential sci-fi/action films of all time, it kinda has to be great. Good enough isn't good enough. When the "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" guy comes in for a turn, I'm walking into that theater almost sort of expecting talking dream dinos; part of me would've been upset if there were not talking dream dinos.
Movie Thread
I like 3 better than 2. After 5 of these, it's kind of weird we don't have anything close to as good as the first.
Movie Thread
2 had better/more memorable moments than 3 imo. The raptors in the tall grass was top notch.
Movie Thread
3 is fan fic. It somehow manages to feel more dated than both of the previous films despite releasing more four years after Lost World and eight years after JP1. It feels like any other generic early aughts action movie. It has some of the worst sequences of all of the JP films, some of the worst acting, the worst effects, and definitely the worst writing. It effectively killed the franchise for almost 15 years. It's the Batman & Robin of the Jurassic Park series.

I enjoyed JP1-3, though I would still put Lost World in the #2 spot. My only real gripe with it was Vince Vaughn.

Haha, I don't disagree with a lot in the above posts. 3 is short and to the point, it gets to the dinos and then ends. Sometimes that's a good thing.

Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. Thanks, plan on it. Making a weekend in Salem and then to New Hampshire for the white mountain national forest first. That should get a lot of repeat viewings of RADOne of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Have fun!I'm talking about a little place called Acadia.

Road trips to New England are the best. I was there in 2008 and 2009. Longing to return. Salem is a blast and shouldn't be bad this time of year traffic/parking-wise. It was awful in October, ha. The White Mountains are lovely.
Is Maine the last stop before you head back south? If so I would highly recommend taking highway 1 as far as possible. It's great fun driving through those little seaside towns.

Yep, leaving Acadia to come back down south of Boston for the night so we can spend an evening at Trillium brewery before we head back next day. Will definitely be taking the seaside route. Stopping in the Maine botanical gardens to see the new giant sculptures hidden throughout the forest first.Road trips to New England are the best. I was there in 2008 and 2009. Longing to return. Anyone ever go up to Acadia for the night sky festival? It's on my to-do list.

Eddy, highly recommend a quick stop in Portsmouth on your way down from Acadia. Downtown/village Green is so nice.
If you go to Mount Washington, do not recommend driving your own car up there. Drive a rental up (like we did ) or take the cog railway.

Rays and the last dragon: I find myself judging it as a very average Disney film but have no issue when the kids want to watch it again.
Something about Awkwafina as the dragon seems super miscast and the pacing is breakneck with no real tension in getting the gems but it’s very enjoyable.

It is a beautiful adventure, but I agree with your points above. I found Awkwafina to be like nails on a chalkboard...her whole demeanor/tone does not mesh well with the overarching tone of the story. I get that every Disney movie (even the darkest) have comic relief, but she came across as obnoxious.Rays and the last dragon: I find myself judging it as a very average Disney film but have no issue when the kids want to watch it again.

It was just really well done. The interaction between the two, what he witnessed, everything - just terrific. It’s a documentary, but it’s not at all boring, and the perfect length.
