XXX was a guilty pleasure for me. And I enjoyed the opening scene/song.Diesel shows more charisma as Groot than in the FF series. I don’t think he likes the series and is really only there for the paycheck. His career post TFATF was so mediocre that he was back onboard within two movies with his cameo in Tokyo Drift. Fully back in Fast and Furious, but hates that it was Dwayne Johnson that took the franchise to record box office returns and not him. His attempts to do stuff outside of FF other than voice work have been terrible, including a failed restart of XXX, so this series is all he has. Coast his way through two more movies and massive paychecks for the series he helped build… all for people to hope that the finale puts John Cena against The Rock.

If we are lucky, we will get "Let's Go Cena!" "Cena sucks!" chants in theaters soon.Welcome to 2004 - 2018 as a WWE fan.I really can't understand what people see in Cena. It's like watching a sentient block of wood.

Based on the bits I've seen in trailers and various clips, I can't imagine how anyone derives a moment of enjoyment from a Fast & Furious movie. They seem impossibly stupid.
Also, I really got a kick out of XXX and Asia Argento. Then she killed Tony Bourdain, and now all I want is for her to face eternal damnation.

I thought "Asia Argento" provided the necessary context for that.

Ah, gotcha. FF isn't lacking with it's female cast from what I've seen. Gal Gadot was certainly a nice surprise last night

Wait, what? Is this a thing that happened?Asia Argento. Then she killed Tony Bourdain, and now all I want is for her to face eternal damnation.

She was a reverse Harvey Weinstein. She had sex with a 17-year old co-actor on a movie a few years ago, and he threatened to Me-Too her. Tony had been a pretty vocal Me Too advocate, particularly for Asia (who had her own Harvey story), and would take to Twitter to laud her and other survivors. And then he found himself in a position of paying off Asia's accuser to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the story sill came out anyway, and a week later his best friend found his body in a hotel room in France.Wait, what? Is this a thing that happened?Asia Argento. Then she killed Tony Bourdain, and now all I want is for her to face eternal damnation.
So, no. She didn't kill him. Not directly, anyway. But I 100% believe she caused his death. So f**k her. I hope Harvey gets to visit her again.

Oh wow, I did not know/remember any of that

Pretty high level of fandom, that. Reaching the fringe of martyrdom.
He killed himself.

Yeah that's another thing I'm worried about. Seems like he tried to lay the "acting" on more in F8 and it was bad, and not in a fun way (plus the 'execution' scene remains a series low point). If F9 is more of him trying to be an actorrr, and then there's John Cena trying to do drama / fun-ham (neither of which he is capable of doing), I'm not sure I want to commit 2.5 hours to that. If they had Bautista in the Cena role, I'd be much more tempted. My wife kept remarking how bad of an actor Vin Diesel was during F9. She's like why do they have him try to show emotion or act? He's awful. Just have him drive around, never have him talk.
As an aside, watched Fast Five again the other night. Aces. Basically the entire last hour of the film is action.

I also just remembered I burst out laughing at him drinking a corona in F4 for some reason

He’s pretty good as a bit player (see Boiler Room and Knock Around Guys) but as a lead, he’s not great... except for in The Iron Giant.Yeah that's another thing I'm worried about. Took my daughter out to see Boss Baby 2. It was okay but not nearly as good as the first imo.
Of course the main theme was the daughter growing up and suddenly not needing her dad as much anymore. And she was going into second grade... Just like mine.

Haha, I'm watching Community now and just saw the season 2 western themed paintball 2-parter. Alison Brie in that western attire. Mmm.Justin Lin did the paintball episodes from community and I've found if you watch these movies when he started with that frame of mind, then you are going to have fun.

was reading Independence Day's trivia and am laughing so hard at this “errors made by characters”
I really wonder how they came to these production decisions (they also misidentify Bombay as the capital of India)(at around 15 mins) The map of Russia shown in "Sky News" (in Russian), shows the city of St. Petersburg as Petrograd, a name used only from 1914 until 1924 (it was called St. Petersburg 1703-1914, Leningrad 1924-1991, and St. Petersburg again ever since.) Other misspellings: Novosibirsk spelled "Novosyoyrsk" (and erroneously described as mountainous), "Fenomen" (phenomenon) spelled "Fznamenon". Inexplicably, the station is called Soviet News, even though the movie takes place some years after the abolition of the Soviet Union.

I enjoyed Questlove's "Summer of Soul" documentary on Hulu. Great performances about the Harlem Cultural Festival in 1969.
