I can't wait until pitchers and catchers report when nothing has happened and NH and FC and CH have given a bunch of platitude-laden speeches and then Pitt goes undefeated the rest of the way and swamps the media coverage.

I will give you that Pitt running the table is more likely than the Pirates doing anything to make an honest effort.

Nutting has to clean house, right? His hand is forced now, with how poorly the team has competed since the All Star break. The win-loss is awful, but the blowout losses have to make it apparent that this team is broken. Right?

Good news: Cubs are now one game from Wild Card elimination. skullman is now one game closer to nailing his prediction.

Bad news: Gerrit Cole struck out 14 batters last night. He now has 316 K's, besting the previous Astros record of 313.
Cole improved to 15-0 with a 1.77 ERA in 22 starts since May 27, becoming the first pitcher since Hall of Famer Roy Halladay in 2003 to have a 15-game winning streak in a season. He is the first Major League pitcher to reach 316 strikeouts since Johnson had 334 in 2002 and the first AL pitcher since Ryan, who had 341 in 1977.
Cole has one start left and it will take a hell of an outing for him to best Johnson's 334 K's in 2002, but Cole is sitting at 13.6 K/9. Johnson was at 11.6 K/9 in 2002 and had a career best 13.4 K/9 in 2001 (also the record for best K/9 in a single season) when he struck out 372. Nolan Ryan's best K/9 was 11.5. Pedro's best was 13.2.

Yeah, seriously.

All the principals are coming back next season. No major changes expected.

Wow.

This is just brilliantly done. I thought it was just some random early 80s song until I saw in the comments that this was a song that was written specifically for the Pirates?

Yes, legit song. Guy singing it was my high school chorus teacher.

The mullet was long gone by the time I had him.
