Had a contractor come out and take a look at our entry way. Said he'd get a quote to me by the end of the week for both just the door, and for the door and entry. I mentioned the outrageous quote we got previously...

"20K, but he said he'd knock it down to 13.5 for me."
"Well, that's not really that bad."
*confused look*
"It's pretty much in the ballpark for replacement of the door and all the windows in the house."
"No, no, no... that was just for the entry way. I was too afraid to ask about windows."
*Jaw drops* "Well, I can promise you I won't even get close to half that, but let me get a quote put together for ya."

Lowes lost me as a customer when they had to snail mail me a refund on a buy online, pickup in store order that was out of stock in the store, because I purchased it with a gift card. It made zero sense, and I had to wait for 2-4 weeks for my refund (which was not an insubstantial amount). Spent the store credit on some lumber and haven't been back sincem

Make sure you ask him to knock a little off now, as hell likely inflate his price a bit

I already told him that I'm getting multiple quotes and am fine with just doing it myself.

Haha, I started laughing maniacally when I saw we got a Renewal by Anderson flyer in the mailbox. My son was like "Are you OK, Dad?"

Inside FAF joke, can't explain.

Evidently, they are in our area now and/or someone is getting new windows in our neighborhood.

My parents used them and I really didn't think it was THAT far off from what it should've been, given that the door itself alone was about $4000 dollars in a store. And they got 2 other large windows.

I do HD for materials and Lowe’s for finished goods
this is probably the most accurate breakdown of HD vs Lowes. HD also has better power tools, don't love the lowes selection outside of dewalt

Yeah, once you get past hand tools, it's HD all the way. Makita FTW, IMO.

I want to rebuild my hammock stand. Will wood prices come down in the next few months or should I pull from my 401k to buy a few 4x4s?

Milwaukee stuff is top notch, too. I got great deals on my Makita stuff that made it impossible to pass up, so I definitely don't regret it.

Futures contracts into July are still sky high.

I just heard November as the estimate for when home improvement supplies will return to more reasonable supplies/pricing.

I would imagine home building drops during the late fall/winter months for most of the country. For us, it’s a reasonable time of the year to work outside.

Any good suggestions on a new dryer? Our existing won't dry anymore. I could probably find out what's wrong, but the previous owners left it behind and it's an electric - time to upgrade to a gas dryer.

I don't care too much for all the bells and whistles, just something that's reliable.

I love cordless tools, but that? GTFO. Buy a gas leaf blower or you'll regret it, unless you only plan on blowing grass clippings off your sidewalk.

i bought this, and don't regret it. used it all over the place. it's awesome. and no thanks on gas powered tools unless it's a weed whacker or lawn mower.

...or a chainsaw, but my chainsaw career is over.

I have a battery powered leaf blower and its real powerful. No problem moving any leafs or grass or anything.

I am going to invest in one of those backpack leaf mulcher things for next fall though. We get a TON of leaves that fall in our yard.

They work, but gas units will actually cut down how much time you spend doing the lawn work. Fact.

truthfully, i'm too lazy to do maintenance on gas stuff. i'll leave the gas and oil in there all winter and then try to boot it back up in april. i'll do no cleaning or maintenance whatsoever, and i'll also not keep track of how much gas/oil i have in the garage.

this way is better for me, personally

I can respect that. It's also why I use TruFuel for my snowblower and leaf blower.
