Honestly the only thing that annoys me about it, is that it is electric. Otherwise, perfect for my needs.

I swear even getting home remodeling contractors to come out and look at a job is like pulling teeth. A friend of mine from college is a (mostly carpentry) contractor and I got a referral from him for a guy to do the bathroom, who he said is scheduling out to June which is fine. Called on Weds, no call back yet. A couple weeks ago, called a guy my sister-in-law used for her bathroom, never called back.

Mrs. F is like- well we want to use someone we know has done good work elsewhere, and we do, and I mean it's not an emergency or something, but it would be nice to get a few bids here. I can't get even one to return a phone call.

Assume they are busy since more people are getting vaxxed and allowing people into their homes but for cryin' out loud return a phone call.

Personally, if they can’t be bothered to even return a phone call, that’s enough of a red flag that I move on.

Anyone have any recommendations/referrals for someone to replace a sidewalk? I got two uneven slabs and a third that is slowly crumbling. A guy from A-1 concrete said it would be more economical to just replace all three instead of replacing one and using their service to level the two.

I have some but they're in the Greensburg area. I think you're probably too far.

I used Vonecrete construction. They redid my driveway and front porch. Very pleased with their work. Not sure where you are located but I am in the north hills

Anyone know about geothermal heating? Cost/efficacy?

New house with more sq ft and only propane as a heating option. Our bills were ungodly in Jan/Feb.

I’ve used SW everywhere in our house except our upstairs bathrooms, where my wife wanted to give the BM Aura Bath & Spa a go and it’s the worst paint I’ve ever used. **** coverage, splatters like crazy, thick and gooey like no paint I’ve ever seen, completely devouring my brush. I can’t wait until I’m done so I can never use this **** again.

Only what I’ve seen on This Old House. It’s gaining popularity, but the up front cost is very expensive due to the drilling. It’s supposedly very efficient, though, and a terrific system if you’ve got it.

Yeah, we looked into it...briefly. You need a well, which in our area is about $2500-3000. More expensive if you have to dig deeper than the 125-50 feet we had to go down to get to the aquifer. Then there's the actual HVAC equipment...

Yeah, zero chance he’s paying those rates for drilling up here.

It’s more than just drilling down, too. They have to run a field of tubing, so you’re also looking at fixing your lawn after the fact.

My uncle did geothermal in his house about 4-5 years ago. No idea how much it cost but he said he figured on needing about 15 to 20 years before it broke even.

I watched and episode of this old house with a place that had geothermal heat installed. That entire segment was very cool and also one of those segments where each steps seems like it is more expensive than the last.

My SIL did it went they built their house. As mac daddy said, it takes like 20 years to pay for itself.

Does 10k for a new concrete driveway that is 20x45 seem reasonable?

Had someone out to fill in some cracks in our current driveway and such and they tried to upsell me on a new driveway. It needs done sooner than later but wasn't sure if that price was in line with the norm.

We’ve paid 3-4k a couple times for a driveway half that size.

Yeah, probably a decent price. Concrete’s expensive stuff for some reason.
