Definitely a fun time to be a Government agent...

Reading these stories over the last six or seven years, I am almost ashamed that I once considered becoming a Deputy U.S. Marshal.
I actually started the process to join the FBI back in the early 2000's, but I had a relative involved in some anti-government activities (U.S. Militia-type things) that made me ineligible.

I believe it's LGBTQA now? I don't know...they keep adding more.
The proper term is "MVEMJSUNP"...although I suppose it's "MVEMJSUN" now 8-)

Is it Obama's fault that the middle east and surrounding areas are more f'd up than they have been in a while? He pulled all those troops out, etc.

I just wanted others opinions. I'm getting political now.
While Bush is at fault for destabilizing the region by removing a secular dictator (who, yes was an abominable despot) the rudderless FP of the Obama administration has made things worse. There are few "heroes" among the U.S. decision makers since 1954.

A good book to understand the "ethos" of the Middle East is Strong Horse by Lee Smith and why none of the Heads of State in the region respect the President or his State department.
Obama honored the Status Of Forces Agreement negotiated by the Bush administration for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq; staying longer, when the Iraqi government clearly wanted us gone, would have amounted to little more than an occupation of a sovereign country. The current state of affairs in the ME is the all-but-guaranteed outcome of the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the subsequent decisions made on how the country was to be rebuilt. ISIL is the result of the de-Baathification of the Iraqi government and standing down of their military apparatus.

The invasion of Iraq was the single worst policy initiative our country has undertaken in my lifetime, and I can't even think of a single legitimate countervailing argument.

I don't disagree, but the FP decisions of the Obama State department have done nothing to "help" the situation, but have in fact made a bad situation worse.

Yeah, I'd be all for that. It's not a political discussion thread without people to argue with.

Since I was exiled from LGP I went from "GOP Conservative" to a being a Localist/"Crunchy Con" thanks mostly to Wendell Berry (among others). Still generally what someone would call a "social conservative" personally, but with an Agrarian mindset.

I have never heard of a "crunchy con" until you used the term...this is fascinating.

Go to Asheville (and probably Colorado Springs?) for the baseline reference.

I don't know why, but this sentence made me giggle. An agrarian social conservative is, in my mind, something of a rainbow colored unicorn; a very rare creature, indeed. :thumb:

While not recommending it wholesale Rod Dreher's book called "Crunchy Cons" is worth reading.

It will be promptly overturned in court...and I doubt many business owners would have the lack of business acumen to actually use this law to their "advantage". They'd be shunned, outcast, and their business' reputation would be destroyed.

I forgot that Pence was governor there now.

As much as I want to say in today's day and age, it's just bad business for someone to turn away people based on sexual orientation, growing up in a very conservative rural setting, businesses they would be praised by local residents.

Crunchy cons are often pot smokers, at least the ones I knew were.

Maybe he's in trouble for punching out a smoker.
